Gnome not recognising laptop

Post by heathen » Tue Jan 09, 2018 17:58

So, after being irritated with Xfce for long enough, I went ahead and installed Gnome through Entropy, just to try it out. It wasn't how I wanted to do things, but I'm having trouble getting a live usb to work lately. It looks nice and is running smoother. I'm finding I like Classic better than the newest environment so far.
My biggest complaint is that it doesn't seem to recognise that this is a laptop. (Acer Aspire E1-431) The power management doesn't list any option for when the "laptop lid is closed" and it doesn't recognise the touchpad. I kinda like to scroll using the touchpad, not the arrow buttons.
I did do a search and tried the supposed fix for the touchpad in this post:
viewtopic.php?f=86&t=33537&p=179045&hil ... ad#p179045
... but that had no affect.
All I can figure is there's gotta be some packages I'm missing, but I really don't know what they are. Would someone mind pointing me in the right direction?
just wandering around and poking stuff with sticks...
