# equo install dev-java/eclipse-ecj-4.2.1

After instilation is compleate I do not see eclipse under my developement menu. so... I have a go at..

Code: Select all
# emerge dev-java/eclipse-ecj

NOTE:
The same happened with trying to install virtualbox.
What am I doing wrong?

Still no eclipse (what gives?), at this point I go to the eclipse site get the tar.gz and now I'm lost i looked on the wiki and didnt see anything. Maybe I missed it Can someone help? I would like to swith from Antergos to sabayon but haveing eclipse or netbeans and virtualbox are a must.

If you type in eclipse in the shell and hit enter, does eclipse pop up?

Not all applications are properly packed up to make shortcut icons correctly, unfortunately.

No it dose not pop up and I ave searched every place I can think of, that's why I wanted to install it from the tar.gz but I'm unsure as to the exact process.

Just download the eclipse binary from their website. Extract and done.

Thanks. I managed to install netbeans as well fron the portage tree after setting my use flags correctly. I still would like to know the process if you dont mind. I have been searching on the net here is what I could find.

Code: Select all
$ tar xzf file.tar.gz
$ ./configure
$ make
# make install

Everytime I've try to install so far gives an error at the ./configure step saying a configure directory dosent exist. If you could shead some light on the install process it would be greatly appretiated.

Thanks

Make sure you cd into the directory your file is in. Try this assuming your file is in the download directory if not cd into the correct directory.
tommy@Lux ~ $ ls
Desktop Downloads Mail Pictures Templates Videos
Documents EchoLink Music Public tucnak Wordpress
tommy@Lux ~ $ cd Downloads
tommy@Lux ~/Downloads $ su tar xzf file.tar.gz
now cd into the unpacked directory and do the ./configure, make and make install.
