cant find installed program

Postby firstkitfer » Sat Jul 12, 2014 9:56

Hello everyone

I'm figuring there would be a newbie mistake somewhere as I have been away from Linux for quite some time, just installed Sabayon yesterday and went to install SugarCRM but found that it wasn't available through Rigo or equo but was available through portage.
Compiled it using emerge but after the emerge was complete I found myself unable to open the program due to the simple reason of I can't find it.
I have been spoiled by Mac OS X for a number of years so I have considerable skill fade and am unsure where to start looking, any help I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Don't have it installed myself, but suggest you use the whereis command and look for "sugarcrm" or "SugarCRM". For example:

Code: Select all
$ whereis firefox
firefox: /usr/bin/firefox /usr/lib64/firefox
$

Another approach would be to use the locate command (if you have installed mlocate, of course):

Code: Select all
# equo install mlocate
# updatedb # Need to do this to update the hash file mlocate uses for fast searching.
# locate -i sugar | grep bin

whereis came up with nothing, mlocate yeilded:
locate -i sugar | grep bin
/usr/share/webapps/sugarcrm/6.5.10/hostroot/cgi-bin

all the information is there but I still can't seem to find a way to get the front end going

Sorry, can't be of more help as I've never used it. However, it looks extremely complicated from what I have just read on the Web. I see that Amazon sells many different books about administering SugarCRM, so I assume it requires a lot of expertise. You need to set up an SQL database server for SugarCRM to use. It looks like you do not launch a program directly; you access it through a Web browser - see, e.g.:

SugarCRM Support - Getting Started

Installing SugarCRM Community Edition On Fedora 14

Running SugarCRM Community Edition On Nginx (LEMP) (Debian Squeeze/Ubuntu 11.04)

How did you install it and run it on other Linux installations?

pretty much all crm software has masses of books dedicated to using it, I haven't used sugarcrm before but have previous experience with microsoft crm. Upon looking into it further (thanks to your links) it appears that sugar can't be run locally as I was originally told, I'll have to keep looking around for a crm suite that'll do what I need.

From a cursory glance at the pages I gave links for in my previous post, you need to have installed the packages php, apache and mysql, all of which are in Gentoo and SL. You can have both client and server on the same machine, so I would think there is no reason why you could not use SugarCRM on a single machine. It's just that I have no experience with the application. You may be lucky and someone who has actually used it in Gentoo or SL will see this thread and post here, but it looks like a specialist business application and I doubt many here will have used it. Even on the Gentoo Forums there are very few posts about it. You might try searching on there or contacting this guy, who blogged in 2007 that he installed it in Gentoo on his company's machine: http://www.shieldadvanced.com/Blog/suga ... too-linux/
