ATI Full screen video stutters

Post by Homer123 » Sat May 17, 2014 13:23

I have been gradually getting all system functions working and now down to the final (that I know of) problem.
Video streaming from such sites as BBC IPlayer work with slight flickering when in native window mode but going to full screen I get stutters that are liking to a slide show. Also I have great difficulty getting out of full screen mode taking several minutes hitting the esc. I have tried turning of hardware acceleration and that doesn't improve things. I can run full screen in a game without problems.

Any thoughts please.

PS I have 30+Mbs broadband and everything works fine in windows and running XBMC on a raspberry Pi

What video card do you have?

proprietary or open source drivers?

I've never heard of the particular issue you're having where pressing escape takes several minutes to exit full screen.

I would attempt to reinstall adobe-flash before playing around with the video settings.

What kernel are you running?

kernel 3.12.0
KDE 4.12.3
I always maintain all updates
last update updated flash and that made no difference

Sometimes I've had flash stop working correctly when firefox was installed after it and reinstalling it seems to fix the issues. Happened to me a couple of times, that's why I mentioned it.

I've had this issue a couple of times, it doesn't matter if i'm using chromium or firefox, the problem is flash player, whenever I try to see a video fullscreen it gets choppy and when trying to get out of fullscreen had to wait a couple of minutes until the screen went normal again, it doesn't happen with all the flash videos but with the mayority of them, my dad PC uses Xubuntu and he has same problem from time to time, very annoying indeed!

I normally recommend trying out the radeon open source drivers, as they are actually quite good for Radeon 2000 - 6000 GPUs and have a much better desktop user experience. However, if you do some gaming, you would probably still want the proprietary drivers.
