A lot of stuff there and I am not sure about the procedure and the results!

So, if I want to install the oracle-jdk I should just use
Code: Select all
 emerge oracle-jdk
?
Or I have to do

Code: Select all
nano -w /etc/portage/package.use/00-sabayon.package.use
and so on?

Can you give me ,if possible, a simplified example and what to pay attention to?

Thanks!

1 - Edit /etc/entropy/client.conf with your favourite text editor as root

and change thisvariable

from ignore-spm-downgrades = disable

to ignore-spm-downgrades = enable

2 - Sync portage tree (first sync can take a long time)
Code: Select all
# emerge --sync

3 - Try to install dev-java/oracle-jdk-bin
Code: Select all
# emerge dev-java/oracle-jdk-bin --ask

If all goes fine
Code: Select all
# equo rescue spmsync

see equo rescue --help for details

then manage your java environment

List available java VMs
Code: Select all
$ java-config -L

and
Code: Select all
$ java-config --help

or
Code: Select all
$ eselect java-vm list

and set Java env.
Code: Select all
$ eselect java-vm set user [n]

see
Code: Select all
$ eselect java-vm help

Hello and thanks fot the help.

The packges aren't installed and I am getting the following :

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Code: Select all
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N F   ] dev-java/oracle-jdk-bin-1.7.0.51-r1  USE="X alsa fontconfig nsplugin (-aqua) -derby -doc -examples -jce -pax_kernel -source"
[ebuild  N F   ] dev-java/oracle-jre-bin-1.7.0.51  USE="X alsa nsplugin -fontconfig -jce -pax_kernel"

Fetch instructions for dev-java/oracle-jdk-bin-1.7.0.51-r1:
 *
 * Oracle requires you to download the needed files manually after
 * accepting their license through a javascript capable web browser.
 *
 * Download the following files:
 *   jdk-7u51-linux-x64.tar.gz
 * at 'http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html'
 * and move them to '/usr/portage/distfiles'
 *

Fetch instructions for dev-java/oracle-jre-bin-1.7.0.51:
 * Please download 'jre-7u51-linux-x64.tar.gz' from:
 * 'http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html'
 * and move it to '/usr/portage/distfiles'

The following license changes are necessary to proceed:
 (see "package.license" in the portage(5) man page for more details)
# required by dev-java/oracle-jdk-bin (argument)
>=dev-java/oracle-jdk-bin-1.7.0.51-r1 Oracle-BCLA-JavaSE
# required by dev-java/oracle-jre-bin (argument)
>=dev-java/oracle-jre-bin-1.7.0.51 Oracle-BCLA-JavaSE

Use --autounmask-write to write changes to config files (honoring
CONFIG_PROTECT). Carefully examine the list of proposed changes,
paying special attention to mask or keyword changes that may expose
experimental or unstable packages.

!!! The following installed packages are masked:
- net-im/skype-4.2.0.13::gentoo (masked by: skype-4.0.0.7-copyright license(s))
A copy of the 'skype-4.0.0.7-copyright' license is located at '/usr/portage/licenses/skype-4.0.0.7-copyright'.

- www-plugins/adobe-flash-11.2.202.341::gentoo (masked by: AdobeFlash-11.x license(s))
A copy of the 'AdobeFlash-11.x' license is located at '/usr/portage/licenses/AdobeFlash-11.x'.

- dev-util/nvidia-cuda-toolkit-5.5.22::gentoo (masked by: NVIDIA-CUDA license(s))
A copy of the 'NVIDIA-CUDA' license is located at '/usr/portage/licenses/NVIDIA-CUDA'.

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

So, do I have to download them manually?
And also, the
ignore-spm-downgrades = enable
should I change it back?

uhm... yes maybe , but the problem is related at license also

run
Code: Select all
# echo "ACCEPT_LICENSE='*' >> /etc/portage/make.conf"

"emerge" Oracle-sdk again

anyway follow
Download the following files:
* jdk-7u51-linux-x64.tar.gz
* at 'http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html'
* and move them to '/usr/portage/distfiles'

good luck

Portage is pretty explicit about that ;)

Ok, thank you.

The "accept license" didn't work though.
I downloaded , moved to /usr/portage/distfiles ,tried again emerge oracle ..and nothing happens.

So, anyone who use sabayon (and hence equo ) in order to use java jdk must do all this procedure?
Anyway..

When I finish do I have to change this back?
ignore-spm-downgrades = enable

this procedure allows mixing portage (Gentoo Package Manager) and Entropy (Default Sabayon Package Manager)

please see Sabayon Wiki - Mixing Portage and Entropy Safely for further details

Really? Please… You expect us to help you, but don't provide correct information.

Check the permissions of the downloaded file (for example with ls -l /usr/portage/distfiles/ | egrep '(jre|jdk)'), should be "-rw-r--r--". If not, change it accordingly (chmod 644 FILE).
