nsight - Java installed but still not finding [Solved]

Postby fjkhf » Tue Dec 24, 2013 11:05

Hello, trying to running a program (https://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=86&t=31139&start=10) it gives me:

A Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK)
must be available in order to run Nsight. No Java virtual machine
was found after searching the following locations:
../jre/bin/java

packages I have installed:

dev-java/oracle-jdk-bin-1.7.0.45
dev-java/oracle-jre-bin-1.7.0.25
virtual/jre-1.7.0
virtual/jdk-1.7.0

I did :

Code: Select all
java-config --list-available-vms

The following VMs are available for generation-2:
1) IcedTea JDK 6.1.12.6 [icedtea-6]
2) IcedTea JDK 7.2.4.3 [icedtea-7]
*) IcedTea JDK 7.2.3.9 [icedtea-bin-7]
4) Oracle JDK 1.7.0.45 [oracle-jdk-bin-1.7]
5) Oracle JRE 1.7.0.25 [oracle-jre-bin-1.7]

I did:

Code: Select all
 java-config --set-system-vm oracle-jdk-bin-1.7

Now using oracle-jdk-bin-1.7 as your generation-2 system JVM

Then :
Code: Select all
 env-update

But still the same error.

your JVm is set to
*) IcedTea JDK 7.2.3.9 [icedtea-bin-7]

did you set JVm for your user ? (Oracle-JDK)
Code: Select all
$ java-config -s 4

set 4th JVm available (Oracle JDK )

Would try to use eselect to set Java VM
Code: Select all
eselect java-vm list
Available Java Virtual Machines:
  [1]   emul-linux-x86-java-1.6
  [2]   icedtea-6
  [3]   icedtea-7
  [4]   icedtea-bin-6
  [5]   oracle-jdk-bin-1.7  system-vm user-vm
  [6]   oracle-jre-bin-1.7
  [7]   sun-jdk-1.6
  [8]   sun-jre-bin-1.6

Code: Select all
eselect java-vm set [user|system] [vm]
Choose between user or system and in addition the number of VM you want to use.

In a similar manner you can set the java browser plugin too:
Code: Select all
eselect java-nsplugin list
eselect java-nsplugin set [32bit or 64bit] [nsplugin-vm]

Hello ,

did you set JVm for your user ? (Oracle-JDK)
$ java-config -s 4

set 4th JVm available (Oracle JDK )

I had already selected oracle sdk (java-config --set-system-vm oracle-jdk-bin-1.7)

I did:
Code: Select all
eselect java-vm list

Available Java Virtual Machines:
[1] icedtea-6
[2] icedtea-7
[3] icedtea-bin-7
[4] oracle-jdk-bin-1.7 system-vm user-vm
[5] oracle-jre-bin-1.7

and
Code: Select all
eselect java-nsplugin list

Available 32-bit Java browser plugins
Available 64-bit Java browser plugins
[1] icedtea-6
[2] icedtea-7
[3] icedtea-bin-7
[4] oracle-jdk-bin-1.7
[5] oracle-jre-bin-1.7 current

but still the same error message... Maybe something is wrong with eclipse?

not set System VM but User VM with "-s" option

see java-config help
Code: Select all
 -S VM, --set-system-vm=VM
Set the default Java VM for the system
  -s VM, --set-user-vm=VM
Set the default Java VM for the user

Do you mean
Code: Select all
java-config -s  oracle-jdk-bin-1.7
?

Now using oracle-jdk-bin-1.7 as your user JVM

(If you mean the above ,still the same though...)

If you don't please show me the full command because I am confused how to use it.

Thank you.

Available Java Virtual Machines:
[1] icedtea-6
[2] icedtea-7
[3] icedtea-bin-7
[4] oracle-jdk-bin-1.7 system-vm user-vm
[5] oracle-jre-bin-1.7

is the same thing
[4] point to oracle-jdk-bin-1.7 system-vm user-vm
[3] point to icedtea-bin-7
and so on

java-config setup : optioon "-S" (uppercase) in not he same as "-s" (lowercase)

see java-config --help
Code: Select all
$ java-config --help

Code: Select all
-S VM, --set-system-vm=VM
Set the default Java VM for the system
  -s VM, --set-user-vm=VM
Set the default Java VM for the user

"-s" (lowercase) set VMs for User
"-S" (uppercase) set VMs for system (gen. root)

try to set your VMs with Java-config and not eselect
