No Login after install (Sabayon 13.08 KDE 64bit)

Postby hempel » Sat Sep 21, 2013 22:37

Hi guys,

i just installed Sabayon 13.08 KDE 64bit, after the restart i try to log in, enter username and password and choose the session but all i got after pressing enter is a black screen with a tiny clock. After 3 or 4 seconds i get right back to the log in screen.

This happens no matter which session i choose.

I tried re-installing Sabayon but with no success, the same thing happens.

It would be grateful if someone could help me out with this.

Best regards

Hallo Hemple.
Sorry, but there's not enough infos from you, especially, which graphic card you have.
Which computer (model) did you install Sabayon 13.08 on then?
And, a more interesting question for me is, could you boot into KDE desktop with your Live media?
If so, then can you boot again with that media, open a konsole, enter
Code: Select all
su

then do a:
Code: Select all
logscript.sh>>logscript.txt

and also
Code: Select all
eselect sysvinit list

Both outputs (lists) we need. Pls. post here. Then we may find a solution.

Thank you.

Hello,

first of all thanks for your answer.
I didnt solve bu avoid the problem by installing the gnome version of sabayon 13.08 that worked.
And i installed KDE manually, that worked too.

The informations about my computer(Lenovo Thinkpad SL510) are in the logscript, but i guess you know that :).

Heres the logscript from my current install: http://pastebin.sabayon.org/pastie/13394

And the
Code: Select all
eselect sysvinit list

shows:
Code: Select all
Available init implementations:
  [1]   systemd *
  [2]   sysvinit

The KDE Live CD worked very well, thats why i decided to install it.
running the logscript on the KDE live CD shows:
Code: Select all
[email protected] ~ $ su
localhost sabayonuser # logscript.sh>>logscript.txt
df: „/newroot“: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden

Sorry, but your paste is empty. Can you check yourself with a click on the link?

Don't worry about the error message. That doesn't change the output. Can you pls upload the file logscript.txt?
Thank you.

Now, I can see both links also...
So, if you can really boot into KDE desktop with a Sabayon Live media, there is one thing, I'd try to do.
1. Boot with Sabayon Live media
2. Mount your hdd Sabayon Partition in Dolphin, you will be asked to do as root)
3. Open a konsole, be root (su)
4. Change to your hdd-sabayon-partition with:
Code: Select all
cd /run/media/sabayonuser/(UID number)/etc/X11
mv xorg.conf xorg.conf.bak
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf .

Then shutdown and boot your Sabyon from hdd.

If not possible to get into KDE, then can you post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak here?

I thought about the xorg.conf too but there is none.
Even in the working gnome system:
Code: Select all
ls /etc/X11/
app-defaults/ proxymngr/    wmconfig/     xkb/          xsm/
chooser.sh    rstart/       wmsession.d/  xorg.conf.d/
dm/           Sessions/     X             Xresources
lbxproxy/     startDM.sh    xdm/          xserver/
mwm/          twm/          xinit/        Xsession.d/

If i install KDE manually from the gnome system it works and i can use KDE but e.g. the automatic login for KDE dont work so i believe its better to solve the KDE install problem and start with a KDE Sabayon instead with a Gnome Sabayon and a manually installed KDE. Plus there are many applications that i have to install by myself with a manually installed KDE.

//Edit:

I just downloaded and burned the .iso again and with this new dvd it works!

Thanks for the help.

Best regards
