Need Help with Radeon Video Driver install

Postby ralphdewitt » Wed Aug 21, 2013 16:44

I have just installed Sabayon 13.08 on my HP Pavilion g7 laptop. This laptop comes with current Radeon Video Chip. My problem is that my knowledge has failed me and I can not figure out how to install the proper flgrx drivers for my video chip. Can someone help?

I see the ati drivers but there is a lot of them and I am not sure which is the correct one to install. I assume Rigo will handle the install and the video driver controll panel and a reboot will handle the rest.

Which version of sabayon 13.08 did you install? Did the livedvd boot up with a nice graphical interface? Do you still have a graphical interface after the install? Have you done a system upgrade since you installed?
I don't know much about ati vid cards/chips. Maybe somebody else can help you.

The drivers you need are the ones that match your kernel. In your case I expect it will be the 13.6_beta#3.10.0-sabayon.
Before rebooting check that opengl is set to use them.
As root;
Code: Select all
eselect opengl list

if ati is not selected then do so by
Code: Select all
eselect opengl set ati

dunsurfin:
Thanks for your help. So far I have the ati driver install (rigo says it is installed) the output from eselect is:
bash: eval: line 24: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
bash: eval: line 24: `Usage: lesspipe <file>'
cubbybear@diesel ~ $ eselect opengl list
Available OpenGL implementations:
[1] ati *
[2] xorg-x11
[3] nvidia
cubbybear@diesel ~ $

I ran aticonfig without any commands as user. When I try and run ati catalyst control center it gives me any error messages that the ati ddrivers are not installed or configuered for use.

When I run aticonfig as su with no parameters is states that aticonfig command is not found.

Any further help would be appriciated.

I can only suggest reinstalling the ati drivers, ati userspace and then amdcccle.

You did restart after installing and going through the eselect business, right?
