XBMC and Mplayer don't work

Postby mrizzone » Wed Jul 24, 2013 17:19

Hello! I'm running Sabayobn MATE 13.04 in a Samsung N220P laptop. Video always works ok but these lasts days XBMC nor mplayer work at all. I obtain a plain black screen. The error messages say something about insuficient resources, but in Sabayon 10 or 11 always work ok.

Any clue?

Thanks!

Can you give us the exact error message?

Also, any other relevant logs. Does dmesg report anything about those resources?

Try this:
"
For mplayer, go to preferences>video>available drivers. select X11 (OpenGL). Save your settings and restart your application."

I got that info from here: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?t=32259

Your issue is definitely with your GPU. What video card do you have? If AMD/Nvidia, which drivers are you using (if you know)?

thanks! MATE don't have the option: preferences>video>available drivers.

I don't know what card nor drives I have, I'm running a fresh installation of MATE 13.04

Not a MATE setting. An mplayer setting.

From a terminal can you give me the output of this (as root):

#eselect opengl list

That will tell you which driver you are using for opengl (graphics).

Ahh, the very basic drivers only. Very interesting. What did you originally install from? Sabayon-Core?

Let's make sure your drivers match up nicely with your card.

Code: Select all
# lspci | grep -i VGA

What's the output of that?

There will be a couple of options once we know the answer to that. On the plus side, getting your drivers right will make everything smoother, more than just getting the video to work.

Thanks for your help!

This is:

Code: Select all
localhost juan # lspci | grep -i VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Atom Processor D4xx/D5xx/N4xx/N5xx Integrated Graphics Controller
localhost juan #

I download the iso image via bittorrent and make an USB drive using unetbooting.

Which iso did you download?

You are using intel integrated graphics, so your opengl being set to xorg-x11 is correct.

If you open up mplayer without playing a video, is there no Preferences tab or button somewhere?
