problems after update on 7/7/13

Postby makabrios » Sun Jul 07, 2013 12:11

hi there, i am running 13/04 hardened server as a desktop machine (with mate desktop) and have just installed all updates that were suggested. after the update there is no shutdown button any more, only a log out button. also, if i want to install software using rigo, it tells me that i do not have authorisation but there is no pop-up anymore where i could enter the admin password. does anyone else have this issue, and is there a fix? many thanks makabrios

'No shutdown button' is probably also caused by problem of not right permissions.

I don't know about a fix, but you're certainly not alone in this. Look at: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=30259
Why, and how to add "[Solved]" to your post. Please read. ← credits to Fitzcarraldo

What init system are you using? OpenRC or Systemd?
AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 250 Processor

i am not entirely sure how to find out what init system i am using, but i had a look in rigo what is installed and it seems that both are installed- it lists openrc 0.12pre1-r2 as well as systemd 204-r8.

You can see the list of available init sistem with
Code: Select all
eselect sysvinit list

the one signed with the asterisc is the enabled one.

Similar problem for me too with cinnamon DE and systemd. If i try to install a package or try to mount a partition or try any action that needs root password to authenticate, system asks password for user sabayon-mce.

it looks as if sysvinit is the enabled one, here the result:

~ $ eselect sysvinit list
Available init implementations:
[1] systemd
[2] sysvinit *

hi lxnay, the machine i have the problem with is running mate desktop only- so may be it is not a cinnamon specific issue?
