Update problem

Postby Paulh » Sun Jun 16, 2013 15:02

Hi all
Completely new to Sabayon / Gentoo
Just trying the live dvd and overall am very impressed.
One problem though is updating using equo
I keep getting the error
>> Repository sabayon-weekly hasn't been downloaded yet.
>> Repository sabayon-weekly is not available. Cannot validate
I've tried going through the wiki, and google, and have run
equo repo mirrorsort sabayon-weekly
which 'seems' to go well, but running
equo update again tell me the same as above.
In Rigo, there are no applications found to install, it alerts me that the repo's are out of date, tries to update then fails...
What am I doing (obviously something) wrong?
Thanks all

Have you installed sabayon, or are you just running the live dvd? If you are running the livedvd, you will not have much luck with upgrades and updates. If, you are running off an installed sabayon, you may have to update manually the first time. The command for that (from a root terminal) would be:
equo update
After the manual update, the auto updater will probably notify you when updates/upgrades are available. They seem to occur about once a week, but it is quite variable.

Running off of a live dvd. Didn't want to install until I could resolve this problem.
Will try intalling tomorrow and see if that's any better.
Thanks dave :-)

Yes, once installed, you can do the "command line" (my preference) or the gui (rigo?) to perform updates. works well.

Have now installed Sabayon 13.04 onto my laptop (Dell Latitude D430)
But...
Same problem.
Repositories fail to update, then if I check in Rigo, it tells me there are updates available which it fails to download, then of course no applications are shown in Rigo, searching for any (i.e. VLC) just gives an error that there are no items matching.
I'm now having to rebuild the laptop again (with Buntu, I need the machine for some work) but would like to get Sabayon working properly, as it does appear (apart from this) to be a really grest distro.
Thanks all

You should do, as root,

Code: Select all
equo update --force

All I can think of is a problem with your network. Are you running behind a proxy or have anything in your network that may interfere with your connection to the mirrors? Are you able to
Code: Select all
ping pkg.sabayon.org
without any trouble?

No problem accessing the internet.
After trying Sabayon, as I need laptop to be up and working, re-installed Xubuntu 12.04, patched and all working fine.
Can ping out to various sites without issue (including sabayon.org)
