How to change background in CTRL ALT F1 terminal

Hello! Is possible to change the background in CTRL ALT F1 terminal? And when one suspends and wake up again the computer, MATE environment shows an ugly stripes background, is possible to change it?

Background colour should be set with setterm. See this script as inspiration ;-)

Can you provide a screenshot for the Mate issue?
