When I was using Debian and Ubuntu based distros, I would use sudo apt-get install to install software packages. How would I do this in Sabayon?

The command line interface to the Entropy package manager is Equo. See the comprehensive article on Entropy and Equo in the SL Wiki (link 'Wiki' is at top of this page).

Code: Select all
$ su
Password: <-- Enter root user's password.
# equo install firefox libreoffice

See also:

Code: Select all
$ equo --help

Also see the sticky thread in the 'Entropy|Equo|Rigo Package Managers' shed (forum).

Wow! I like Equo. Reminds me a bit of the arch way of installing software that I use in Manjaro. Equo seems to be a robust package installer. At least from a first impression perspective. :)

It is very robust, actually. And easy to use. Note also that SL is a rolling-release distribution. All I need to do from time to time to roll forward is:

Code: Select all
# equo update
# equo upgrade
# equo conf update # Actually the previous command's output will even tell you whether or not you need to do this.
# # Optional stuff now:
# kernel-switcher switch linux-sabayon-<x>.<y>.<z> # Only needed if there is a new version of the kernel in the repository and you want to upgrade to it.
# deptest # A dependency check and fix if necessary.
# libtest # A quick library check and fix if necessary.

All is explained in the aforementioned SL Wiki articles.
