mount cifs ends with "error(13): Permission denied" [Solved]

Postby waste » Wed May 01, 2013 14:33

Hello. I am trying to mount samba share, with no success so far. I did some research and tried to mount it from bash and also added it to /etc/fstab. Not working.
  1. My share is on local home storage - Sabayon machine with samba installed.
  2. Share is configured to be available without password.
  3. Share works fine under multiple Windows 7 machines.
  4. Share doesn't work on my laptop with Sabayon installed (Xfce manager).
  5. My /etc/fstab line below (it does not work):
    Code: Select all
    //storage/data /s cifs guest 0 0
  6. Also tried with below bash commad (as root):
    Code: Select all
    mount -v -t cifs -o guest //storage/dane /s
  7. Error msg:
    Code: Select all
    mount.cifs kernel mount options: ip=192.168.15.166,unc=\\storage\data,user=,pass=********
    mount error(13): Permission denied
    Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
    (I read man page, but there's nothing about my issue in there.)
  8. I can mount this share via Thunar. I run mount command to see how it's possible and looks it's not mounted via cifs...
    Code: Select all
    $ mount
    ...
    gvfsd-fuse on /home/waste/.gvfs type fuse.gvfsd-fuse (rw,nosuid,nodev,user=waste)

Help would be appreciated. I can also provide any other commands output or logs if needed.

Not sure if this will help.

I mount a share from windows vista to sabayon and have the following entry in fstab:

Code: Select all
//192.168.0.1/temp /home/steve/vista/Temp cifs user,username=xxxx,password=xxxx,auto,rw,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 0

where xxxx are my actual vista login details (OK, not very secure, but I am the only user), and uid and gid are my Sabayon user and group id's

Thanks for suggestion, but it turned out that issue was my samba configuration. I got it configured as security=share and when I changed to security=user it works fine.
