authentication problem?

Post by MrBiron » Thu Mar 07, 2013 15:15

This is very annoying and quite strange.
I suddenly can't log in to Sabayon 11. I put my password in but just get "authentication problem". I can't even log in as a guest.
Is there any way to log in as admin or something like that? Or any way to fix this?
At the moment it looks like I'll have to reinstall and if that's the case I'll have to swap distro's as I don't want this happening again.

Login as root and add - just for testing purpose - a new user, then try to login with it.
a. at LogIn prompt, press CTRL+ALT+F1, you'll be bumped into tty1
b. login as root
c.

Code: Select all

# useradd -c "Testing User" -m -g users -p CHOOSE_AND_USE_HERE_YOUR_OWN_PASSSWORD testingu

d. logout
e. press ALT+F7 to return to your LogIn screen
d. login with the credentials of the newly created user (name: testingu || pwd: YOUR_OWN_PASSSWORD)

How do you log in as root? I pressed Ctrl+alt+f1 and types root and password: root but that didn't work.

This has happened after I've updated my system as well. It was fine before.

The mods can close this if they want. I've gone back to another distro for the time being.

You got to understand that nobody can possibly know how to help with no information.

Enjoy your another distro.
