Problem with KDE 4.9.5 [Solved]

Postby vfafou » Sat Jan 19, 2013 1:46

Hello!
I have a problem with some apps, after upgrading my Sabayon 10 to KDE 4.9.5.
Cairo-Dock is installed with its plugins and themes, but does not start properly, saying that no plug-in were found.
As well as, Rigo's appearance is very bad. List of found packages from search, show only the package titles, without buttons <More Info>, <Install> and without icons left of titles.
I don't know if it is a more generic problem with gnome apps.
I tried to reinstall cairo-dock with all deps and Rigo, but same problems.

I forgot to mention that trying to run cairo-dock from terminal, I get the following error: "Error opening directory 'lib64/cairo-dock': No such file or directory".

When I try to run Rigo, gives this:
(rigo:1990): Gtk-WARNING **: Theme parsing error: rigo.css:28:20: Not using units is deprecated. Assuming 'px'.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Hello B3rtm3n!
I can't find any clear instruction. I believe that something gone wrong with the last upgrade of KDE 4.9, which effected the gnome libraries. I don't know...

I think you missed this part:

I verified, seems to me that the Errors are because the old version of Cairo-Dock needs some packages that were, updated. and therefore no more suitable for old Cairo-Dock.

I tested a compiled new Cairo-Dock version, and this works.

I commented in the existing request for upgrading Cairo-Dock:

    https://bugs.sabayon.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3914

Soon, I expected that the Team will prepare a new version of Cairo-Dock

I think we just have to wait till someone upgrades cairo-dock in the packages. Do not know how to compile something like this on my system.

You are right B3rtm3n. I didn't noticed that. So are we waiting for the next upgrade of the package?

Cairo-Dock is cool ... "superfresh" KDE 4.9.5 brings changes and optimations ... new dbus with QT and other cool stuff. After days, when out from testing, Sabayon Packages work stable. Since i use Sabayon, always solid made. Ixnay i see this whole weekend busy at GIT !! new Ixnay Head + Developer Evolution combined with cool Eyecandy ... is in final work there !! It will be amazing i am shure ! still a Linux Newbie ... the fascination about this Distro is for me unique. Soon i will be also happy with new Cairo-Dock ... i have no problem to wait for that a bit !!

Have a nice week :)

I do not know if it is a good idea mixing the package manager of Gentoo with these of Sabayon

It can be done using the sabayon overlay:

https://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?titl ... nd_Portage

But it is not recommended to people who are relatively new to sabayon.

There should be another answer as I've just installed GLX-Dock, and all the related plugins etc., to see what happens and it works perfectly on my system SLK x86 fully updated.
