Ubuntu Unity-gentoo [Solved*]

Postby hieronimus » Sun Nov 11, 2012 12:07

Good afternoon. How I can install unity shell to sabayon?

while installing after
Code: Select all
#layman -a unity-gentoo
#layman -s unity-gentoo

I stuck with
Code: Select all
 emerge =x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.0-r9999

Code: Select all
* IMPORTANT: 7 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

Calculating dependencies... done!
#[ebuild     U  ] x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.0-r9999 [1.12.4] USE="dmx*"

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

x11-base/xorg-server:0

  (x11-base/xorg-server-1.12.4::sabayon-distro, installed) pulled in by
    <=x11-base/xorg-server-1.12.49[-minimal] required by (x11-drivers/ati-userspace-12.8::sabayon-distro, installed)
    (and 2 more with the same problem)

  (x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.0-r9999::unity-gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    =x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.0-r9999

x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.0-r9999 is necessary dependency for unity.

Please help me

i think it would be easier to install straight gentoo than be in dependency hell

Unity is a very special beast.

hieronimus, are you attempting to install all of these DEs (Trinity, Unity, whatever else) all on the same Sabayon installation?

If so, you are going to want to stop. Portage is a very powerful package management system, but you are pulling in third party layovers like they're going out of style. You are going to have conflicts, probably unresolvable conflicts between these different DEs from layovers.

Installing a new version of xorg-server isn't something to be done lightly and it doesn't sound like you truly understand how to handle these types of things.

I realize the desire to try out everything you can and to push your linux install to it's limits (maybe you're even just trying to see how helpful the community can be), but what you are attempting to do by installing all of these DEs from layovers is something an advanced user would probably have great difficulty with.

If you truly do want to attempt to continue on your quest, I suggest getting more familiar with portage. By the time you're done, you will probably realize you might have been better off starting with straight gentoo (or at the very least completely abandoning entropy).

you can use sabayon live to "install" gentoo, just start at step 4 in gentoo handbook. that way you can still use the computer while you do the gentoo thing.

Yes, I am aware, although if you are going to use a sabayon install and turn it into straight gentoo, you need to remove the sabayon-distro (I might have the exact name wrong) overlay. You can also use portage and keep it a sabayon install (aka the sabayon-distro overlay)

I didn't really think I needed to go into detail about all of that with hieroniumus at this point in time though.

i was not talking about turning sabayon into gentoo. i ment to use sabayon live insted of the gentoo iso. makes the week or so of the first gentoo install a little less painfull
