I wonder if interactive boot may help find the problem?

Mike the Bike wrote:I installed Sabayon on USB but Sabayon boots only in console mode. Reinstall - same problem. I have seen that someone couldn't boot Sabayon LIve DVD because of Radeon graphic card (I have ATI 9550) so I have changed boot parameters during boot (deleting vga=791, splash=..., video=...mttrr:3, splash to off, I have added xdriver=ati, vesa), but nothing-still can't boot normally. During boot some error about filesystem shows up but booting is to fast for me to be able to see what is all about.

I have no idea what to try next, so I guess I am convicted to Sabayon Live (or some other Distro).

Thanx for all your help and advice.

I think what you're looking for is persistent mode in USB....in Live mode all the packages you download, update, upgrade doesn't matter because in the next session it'll all get wiped off (changes are not saved) and you'll end up with yet another Live session...that's the reason why it's called a "Live mode".

Alright let me tell you the easiest trick that you can pull to end up with a persistent live CD to permanently try out Sabayon from a USB.

First of all for this setup you need either 2 USB (with Sabayon ISO burned into one of the USB) or 1 USB and 1 DVD/CD with Sabayon ISO burned into it.

Okay so you did manage to burn a live CD image into either a USB (if you plan on using 2 USB) or a DVD...so now boot into the Live session and from there onwards prepare to install Sabayon from the installer on the other USB.

It's best if the USB stick you plan on installing Sabayon on is atleast 8 GB or more in size cos obviously the updates and everything are pretty big, etc. also you can try to install swap partition on that if you want to but don't make it too big.

Once you're done installing, enjoy your new persistent Sabayon install on USB. From experience I've seen that 8 GB is often not enough for dealing with updates and stuff so try not to install a swap partition if you're using 8 GB USB.

Thanx chasha420. I did that actually. Installed Sabayon on first partition (9Gb in size) on 16GB USB via DVD.

Funny thing that on my comp Live DVD boots without problem (on laptop works too after I delete VGA from boot line parameters). There were no problems observed during installation process...

It would be great if there would be some boot log file so I could post it here ...

I will try one more time, this time I will use just one partition, which will fill all space on USB.

Maybe it would, but I do not know even what that is. :)

Easiest trick to have a persistent Sabayon would be when devs would implement it into Live version. Even Gentoo Live DVD has that option enabled. 8)

Mike the Bike, please use the Code button when posting lengthy console output. I've edited your post accordingly. See also BBCode guide - Outputting code or fixed width data.

With a help from my web friends I managed to install Sabayon on USB without any errors.

Everything works, but page loading in browser is slow - about 30 seconds and several minutes for one page to show up (also software install - Rigo can process one or two of them in an hour while I needed one hour for all of them in Live version).

I know that USB port is a bottle neck for data transfer, but on the same USB page loading in Live version was just fine.

So, where lays the problem and how do I fix it?

You mentioned in your first post that you were using a USB LivePenDrive on a 'public computer', whereas later you refer to using it on your own computer and a laptop, and, later still, you mentioned that you have now installed SL (as opposed to creating a LivePenDrive) to a 16 GB pen drive.

On which computer(s) are you now using the USB pen drive with SL installed, and does the entity who provides the computer(s) or the wireless network(s) have any restrictions in place on the computer(s) or on the network router(s)?

In addition to the above, I wonder if this is a problem with the MTU you are using. Try the things mentioned in the blog post Why can’t I access a specific Web site? (especially the MTU check).

Furthermore, please post the output of the following commands issued as root user in a Konsole/Terminal window in SL booted from the pen drive on the computer on which you are having trouble:

Code: Select all
uname -a
lspci
lsusb
lsmod
equo search linux-firmware
cat /var/log/messages | grep -i --text error
ifconfig
iwconfig
rc-status
rfkill list all
