XFCE Desktop as normal user

Post by windcheetah » Thu May 03, 2012 15:53

Hi can any please help me to use the XFCE interface as a normal user?? I can use it when I log in as root, so it is installed and working for root, but not available to normal users.

When I try and log in as a normal user, I just end up back at the login screen, no error is generated.

Thanks loads
Martin

Hi there,
have you tried to change the session from standard to xfce? That solved it for me.

cheers

It happened to me when I installed XFCE and kept my config files in my /home. The "default session" looked for the KDE session and when not found sent me back to login screen. Changing the session at login screen would help.

Thanks for that information. I have used OpenSUSE with KDE before i migrated to Sabayon. If you can tell me how I correct the session, that would be awesome (maybe I try to figure out myself).

cheers

Thanks for your thoughts.

Just to let you know, the installation came from the DVD on the front of 'Linux User & Developer' issue 111.

I have not left the desktop as default, as I had no idea what that was, but I am now downloading Sabayon 8 from the web site with the XFCE interface.

I hope that this will give me the XFCE desktop as root and as a normal user only.

I'll let you know!!!!

Hi, no real change in the situation with the new installation.

I downloads the 32 bit version with the XFCE interface.

I've installed the logfile collector programme, but as I don't know much about linux, which log files would be of most use, or do you need all of them???

Are you sure that you formated the home-partition?

Have you tried to change the Session from Default to Xfce in your login shell?
