File server solution

Post by parad9gm » Sun Sep 04, 2011 3:02

Hi all,

I'd like to utilize my multi-role SL box as a network attached storage (NAS) server, but I was unable to find any readily available solutions out of the box for SL. The Turnkey Linux file server appliance is almost perfectly suited to my needs, but I would prefer not to waste any overhead on my resource-limited machine running virtual machines. The next suggestion would be to set up another partition but I don't desire a part time dedicated server. I've looked into setting up Samba (the package is available on Entropy), but I feel too much a novice for the information I was able to find.

Does anyone have advice for what they use with Sabayon for a file server?

Regards,

Anyone?

I've had no luck at all getting my Samba server to talk to my Windows 7 computers. There's no use posting questions about Samba, unless someone can suggest a GUI for it for SL/LXDE.
