i had to edit this post since it was a rambling mess of nonsense. and hopefully this is better :)
i have been trying to setup a nfs share on my network i have two sabayon boxes: the nfs server sabayon 6 only updated entropy equo and sulfur. client one aka sasquatcheian or 192.168.1.127 has sabayon 5.5 out of box not updated at all. also i have one mac which is working sharing folders via samba which each of the sabayon boxes can access but has zero access to any of the sabayon boxes. the firewall that came with sabayon 6 i have disabled it for now until the nfs share becomes successful. i have tried various variants in the exports file such as 192.168.0.0/8, 192.168.1.0/24, *,sasquatcheian, etc.. after any change i always do etc/init.d/nfs restart and exportfs -ra and i have rebooted even just to see if that helped any. to my avail nothing i could think of to change has done any good has made any change to the situation. your help is greatly appreciated thank you

Re: nfs manual mount clientside failure

Post by bloodyscript » Sat Jul 16, 2011 20:49

im not sure why version 4 was failing but i tried to mount with version 3 and it worked

Code: Select all

mount -v -o 'vers=3' 192.168.1.32:/home/bludiescript/tv-shows /home/hiawatha/Desktop/stuff/sabayon_tv-shows
mount: no type was given - I'll assume nfs because of the colon
mount.nfs: timeout set for Sat Jul 16 15:39:21 2011
mount.nfs: trying text-based options 'vers=3,addr=192.168.1.32'
mount.nfs: prog 100003, trying vers=3, prot=6
mount.nfs: trying 192.168.1.32 prog 100003 vers 3 prot TCP port 2049
mount.nfs: prog 100005, trying vers=3, prot=17
mount.nfs: trying 192.168.1.32 prog 100005 vers 3 prot UDP port 56967
192.168.1.32:/home/bludiescript/tv-shows on /home/hiawatha/Desktop/stuff/sabayon_tv-shows type nfs (rw,vers=3)
except it has read and write abilities which is something i didnt want which was why i added the ro option in the exports file.

so the only issue left is setting up the mac nfs client which seems to be alot differnt than linux

Code: Select all

sudo showmount -e it give a rpc authentication failure.
rpcinfo -p gives

Code: Select all

rpcinfo -p
rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: RPC: Remote system error - Connection refused
so i believe that my original problem has been solved and ill post on a mac forum for help with this next issue
