Gif image , why different animation effect?

Post by wayne128 » Wed Oct 13, 2010 3:52

I used SL 5.4 Gnome installed and updated. Using firefox as browser.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en; rv:1.9.2.9) Gecko/20100910 Sabayon Firefox/3.6.9

When I see some of the Gif animation, I see differences with other OS installation.

Here is one link:
http://ubuntuforums.org/images/smilies/guitar.gif
do you see this as blinking image? or playing guitar?

What should I do in order to see the guitar playing?

Edit:
on this link, http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Penguins/
funny thing is for all Gifs I tried, -002.gif and -017.gif have the same animation as other OS
but the rest are blinking. ( ignore the .png file).

Strange. If it is a Firefox problem, I'm not experiencing it. I'm using www-client/firefox-3.6.9-r1.

I have 3.6.9 - the latest in entropy - I see that 3.6.9-r1 is in portage. It affects various gifs in Firefox that display correctly in gewnview.

Just noticed the following post in the thread you gave the link for: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-64 ... ml#6420679

Either roll back cairo pre 1.10.0 or update firefox to the 4 beta versions.
I have cairo-1.8.8-r1 installed.

I have cairo-1.10.0-r3. Again it's a matter of the small delay between availability in portage and entropy. I predict that the next update involving firefox will include the latest cairo too. :)

Same result here, firefox-3.6.9, cairo-1.10.0-r3, blinking gif.
In Chromium it's displayed normally.

As we are now on Firefox 3.6.11 I decided to downgrade to cairo-1.8.10 to give it a try. As I'm normally an Entropy user I used portage to do it and, so far, it appears to have been successful. The gifs are doing as expected and I can now indulge my search for ancestors with no problem. Thanks for the information Fitzcarraldo.

Just a little update on this: The emerge failed on one of my machines with this error

Code: Select all

/bin/grep: /usr/lib/libGL.la: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/sed: can't read /usr/lib/libGL.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/lib/libGL.la' is not a valid libtool archive
A search gave me a page with the remedy to install "lafilefixer" and run

Code: Select all

lafilefixer --justfixit
. I did that and repeated the emerge which finished without any problem. :)

took a break and did not update system.

Today I checked entropy and see many updates, including firefox 3.6.11 and firefox bin
Update all, and check this issue , and those gifs are working as it should on firefox.
Will check another one later.
