devices remounted after switching back from VT to X

Post by Fac3kk » Wed Sep 08, 2010 19:43

Hello,

I have noticed what I think is a strange behaviour of my system.

I am running sys-kernel/linux-sabayon-2.6.35-r4 with all current updates applied.

It is about disks being remounted while I switch to any of the VT and back to X.

Below are parts of /var/log/messages:

Here I switch to 1st VT - console 0

Code: Select all

Sep 8 20:27:47 localhost kernel: [ 750.258159] fbcondecor: console 0 using theme 'sabayon'
Sep 8 20:27:47 localhost kernel: [ 750.263164] fbcondecor: switched decor state to 'on' on console 0

Next I login as root

Code: Select all

Sep 8 20:27:52 localhost login[7140]: pam_unix(login:session): session opened for user root by LOGIN(uid=0)
Sep 8 20:27:52 localhost login[16389]: ROOT LOGIN on 'tty1'
all fine

Now I go back to VT7 - X and in messages I can see what follows

Code: Select all

Sep 8 20:28:06 localhost kernel: [ 769.435577] ata3.00: configured for UDMA/133
Sep 8 20:28:06 localhost kernel: [ 769.435581] ata3: EH complete
Sep 8 20:28:06 localhost kernel: [ 769.654882] EXT4-fs (sda8): re-mounted. Opts: user_xattr,commit=0
Sep 8 20:28:06 localhost kernel: [ 769.669317] EXT4-fs (sda6): re-mounted. Opts: user_xattr,commit=0

This also happens to all usb mass storage devices, but in that case even device notifier pops up to tell me that a device has been auto (re)mounted (despite the fact is has already been mounted once)

Examlpe :
I plug in usb stick

Code: Select all

Sep 8 20:31:38 localhost kernel: [ 981.634052] usb 2-1: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3
Sep 8 20:31:38 localhost kernel: [ 981.750057] scsi6 : usb-storage 2-1:1.0

Sep 8 20:31:39 localhost hald: mounted /dev/sdb1 on behalf of uid 1000
now I switch to VT2

Code: Select all

Sep 8 20:31:47 localhost kernel: [ 990.346573] fbcondecor: switched decor state to 'on' on console 1

Sep 8 20:31:52 localhost kernel: [ 995.421723] sdb: sdb1 sdb2
Sep 8 20:31:52 localhost hald: mounted /dev/sdb1 on behalf of uid 1000
Sep 8 20:31:52 localhost hald[5654]: forcibly attempting to lazy unmount /dev/sdb1 as enclosing drive was disconnected
Sep 8 20:31:52 localhost hald: unmounted /dev/sdb1 from '/media/cryptTools' on behalf of uid 0
Sep 8 20:31:52 localhost hald: mounted /dev/sdb1 on behalf of uid 1000
Is that a proper behaviour? I haven`t noticed that in 2.6.34.
If that isn`t proper - is that only my problem or do you experience the same?

I'm going to go ahead and say that this is posted in the wrong shed - you may be new to Sabayon, but you're not a newbie as far as forum questions go.

As for the remounting, seems only to be that kernel revision. Strange indeed; I'm on 64-bit .35, and don't see this behavior.

on second thought, what module(s) are you using that relate to X? That could be a place to start looking.

So, what video card, and what drivers for it?
