error about missing files

Postby warbltux » Sat Jun 12, 2010 3:21

Just updated to sabayon 5.3 gnome, when i try to run

System > Administration > Authentication, it responds with a pop-up saying:

Could not launch 'Authentication'
Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/system-config-authentication" (No such file or directory)

likewise, if i attempt to run

System > Administration > Date & Time , I get a pop-up saying:

Could not launch 'Date & Time'
Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/system-config-date" (No such file or directory)

However, /usr/bin/system-config-authentication exists and runs if I run it from the terminal as root, whereas /usr/bin/system/config-date exists, but after I viewed it with a text editor, it appears to be a blank file, reinstalling does not fix the problem.

edit: just noticed /usr/bin/system-config-users is also a blank file, and running it from
System > Administration > Users and Groups results in: Could not launch 'Users and Groups' Failed to execute child process "/usr/bin/system-config-users" (No such file or directory)

There appears to be 2 entries for Users and Groups in System > Administration, the second one is the one affected by the error, and I'm wondering why there is two entries.

If I:
Code: Select all
ls -l /usr/bin/system*

I see a couple of broken symlinks.
Definitely a bug.

Seems like app-admin/authconfig is creating the bogus symlink.

Please pardon me if this is a newbie error, but somehow my /usr/bin/system* links are borked as well:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jul 7 18:05 /usr/bin/system-config-authentication -> consolehelper
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jul 1 11:38 /usr/bin/system-config-date -> consolehelper
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jul 1 11:38 /usr/bin/system-config-keyboard -> consolehelper
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jul 1 11:38 /usr/bin/system-config-users -> consolehelper

I tried reinstalling authconfig in a root term:
Code: Select all
equo install authconfig

and everything seemed to go as expected. But the above links didn't change (apart from the system-config-authentication timestamp), and the related admin commands are still borked. So I tried reinstalling the whole list of dependencies:
Code: Select all
equo install --ask glib newt XML-Parser intltool desktop-file-utils gettext eselect-python-20100321

and re-reinstalling authconfig, but that didn't work either.

Is there something else I am supposed to do?

Sorry if this is clear to Sabayon users, I'm used to plain gentoo. In which overlay? An entropy or portage one?
