init 0 doesn't work [Solved]

Post by ulbr » Sat Jun 05, 2010 0:49

Hello,
I'm new to Sabayon, I have installed Sabayon from the CoreCD and then build everything with portage. Well the system runs fine gnome as well, but when I run:

Code: Select all

init 0
in a terminal or try to shutdown gnome over System/Shutdown, xorg ends and then the main console tell me system is going to init stat 6 ???

Why is that. Perhaps I screwed a config file with etc-update. But I really don't know where to look. Can someone please give me a hint?

Or indeed:

Code: Select all

shutdown now
or

Code: Select all

reboot
Do you still get the problem when you use either of those commands?

Thanks for the fast answers. I have tried:

Code: Select all

init 0
halt
shutdown now
each of the commands do a reboot of the computer. But I just figured out that this issue one happends when I boot into my custom kernel. The original kernel from the CoreCD works fine for shut down.

So I will go through my kernel-config again.

Thanks for your help

Have you found a solution?
I experience the same problem (=computer reboots instead of to shutdown) after upgrading kernel to 2.6.34.
With 2.6.33 shutting down works OK.

On my machine it was a ConsoleKit related issue.
Reinstalling and restarting ConsoleKit solved it.
