Can't install VirtualBox

Post by weeman7007 » Fri Mar 12, 2010 19:31

Hi, I'm new to Sabayon Linux, have to say I'm really loving the ease of use yet having the use of portage (which I am also new to). I have a couple of issues.. First and foremost I try to follow this guide using the portage section as I have used this to install everything else so far and saw the section on the wiki where it says mixing entropy and portage too much can mess things up. However, I get this following error after trying to emerge:

Code: Select all

>>> Emerging (1 of 4) app-emulation/virtualbox-modules-3.1.4
 * vbox-kernel-module-src-3.1.4.tar.bz2 RMD160 SHA1 SHA256 size ;-) ...  [ ok ]

Any help with solving this issue would be greatly appreciated :)
On another note I have an Intel HDA sound card, and it works fine, I just can't seem to figure out how to make it louder as I have set the volume to 100% and it is still fairly quiet.

Other than these aforementioned issues, neat job on a fantastic OS :D

Hi

mybe you've nedd the sabayon-kernel-sources
* Found kernel source directory:
* /usr/src/linux
* Could not find a Makefile in the kernel source directory.
* Please ensure that /usr/src/linux points to a complete set of Linux sources

try to install it

Code: Select all

equo install linux-sabayon-sources
and try to emerge Vbox again

Thanks very much :)

Tried that and it said I had to update GCC so I am currently following the HowTo.

If you are using portage for everything, than you shouldn't be equoing stuff, use the sabayon overlay and emerge the kernel sources - http://forum.sabayon.org/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=17718

ahh ok, thanks Wolfden.

I used the guide but hit this problem..

Code: Select all

devils-advocate sam # uname -r
2.6.31-sabayon
devils-advocate sam # emerge sabayon-sources
Calculating dependencies... done!

>>> Verifying ebuild manifests

!!! A file listed in the Manifest could not be found: /usr/local/portage/layman/sabayon/sys-kernel/sabayon-sources/sabayon-sources-2.6.29.ebuild
Could this problem have arisen as a result of following the initial advice and using Equo?

Same error but it is at least in the new location of /var/lib etc. I really have no idea what is going on to be honest.
