Well, I tried to mount CD-R in the console without running X-server, but without success. I do not think the problem is the desktop environment ...

No success? what was the error or output? what does dmesg say right after you insert the disc and try to mount it?
Forgive me, I don't mean to insult you, but are your comfortable with bash commands, and do you have any experience in gathering logs and executing the commands given previously?

I don't know how much experience you have using linux, so I'm not trying to sound snooty. :?

I need some dmesg output, the output when you try to mount the CD-R. How old is the CD-R, is it a fresh burn? is it finalized? thanx :D

I have a fairly new LG SATA DVD+-RW burner, and I have no such issues. I'm trying to find what could be happening. You may even have a disc that may have damaged ur drive's lens (completely possible) and that sux. Some output could give some insight on what difficulties the drive is having.

You do not insult me, you are trying to help me, for which I thank you :)
I will try to summarize the results and thus help you to help me :)

1) There is a problem with these optical devices:
HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H58N (PATA)
HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8526B (PATA)

2) The problem is that some CD-s appear in the file manager (in my case PC-Man) and I can mount them as normal user, but others do not appear in the file manager and I have access to them (mount/umount) only as root. This applies to both CD-RW and DVD-RW drive;

3) Тhe devices work perfectly with the same CD media when I run other distributions (from Live CD);

4) The problem does not occur when using DVD media;

5) The problem appeared when I installed all the updates of 19 December onwards (because I was not using this computer about two months), and installed a kernel version 2.6.32, which is currently in use;

6) And some dmesg output (I tried two media, in one case the problem occurs, in the other - not):

[1] device: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H58N
1.a) there is a problem, media do not appear in the file manager and I have access to them (mount/umount) only as root

Re: Problem with optical drives from LG (HL-DT-ST)

Sorry, I was gone for Spring break. I traveled to my parents house.

hmmm, are your discs finalized? what did you use to burn them. Windoze is now burning discs in a way they are not finalized until the disc is full. you actually have to set settings to use the disc for 1 time use.

Ive done some research and it seems its one of 2 things
1. the disc is blank, and could not be finalized
or
2. HAL issue. (as of kernel 2.6.32-rc2)

The reason I'm not having ur issues I guess is I have an LG "SATA" DVD burner and its not "PATA"

Are you u using the latest version of Sabayon 5? if not, this could fix your HAL issue. Sabayon 5.2 is on its way and it comes with a nice list of upgrades and fixes including 2.6.33 kernel. the 2.6.33 kernel is also in the repository so an equo update and equo install linux-sabayon-2.6.33 and reboot into 2.6.33 kernel may also fix it.

Welcome back. :)
I think the problem is with HAL, because I never had a problem with these CD media before, and now I have no problem when I run another distribution from a live CD. I am using the latest version of Sabayon, I regularly install updates, I installed version 2.6.33 Kernel, but do not currently use it because I had a problem with the nvidia drivers for my card. I will try again and report results. Thank you for your help.

Today I installed all the available updated packages (still use Kernel 2.6.32), and everything works normally again. I do not understand where the problem was, but anyway it is solved.
