Number of updates

Postby morgulbrut » Wed Mar 03, 2010 23:08

Hi community

I've searched the forum but did'nt found the answer yet. Is there any possibility to get just the number of updates through the terminal? Because i don't like the entropy applet, since im not a fan of popups. I would like to show the number of updates in my conky and do it manually.

i tried to do it through equo, but till now i never saw the number of available updates.

Hi! try with:

equo upgrade --pretend

you can see the number and names of packages updated without install it.

With the help of c0nv1ct at irc, managed to get the right command.
Code: Select all
LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8 equo upgrade --pretend --quiet |grep updated: |sed 's/.*: //'

You can change updated with installed/updated/downgraded to get the real number of packages involved.
The language thing is needed to force equo use english so the command will work no matter what language is set the system.
