sabayon 64bit? [Solved]

Postby yarco » Wed Dec 09, 2009 10:17

Hi, any sabayon4.2/5 64bit iso exists?
(i found there is always amd64...but my cpu is not amd, it's intel)

what about 4G memory?
localhost ~ # cat /proc/meminfo | grep Total
MemTotal: 3091944 kB
I could only use 3G.
So, how you fix this if no 64bit?

amd64 iso works on intels

The AMD line of 64-bit extended processors were released well ahead of Intel's offering. Therefore, for historical reasons the arch keyword for all x86-64 compatible architectures is amd64.

If you stick with 32-bit SL edition then you would need to rebuild your kernel with PAE support (32bit kernel with PAE?) in order to acess your 4 Gb RAM. But it's much easier for you to just install a 64-bit edition of SL if you have an Intel 64-bit CPU (x86_64 = amd64, as wolfden wrote):

Press Release: Sabayon Linux x86/x86-64 5.o GNOME and KDE

Download Sabayon_Linux_5.0_amd64_K.iso for your Intel 64-bit CPU if you like KDE

Download Sabayon_Linux_5.0_amd64_G.iso for your Intel 64-bit CPU if you like GNOME

This thread makes rather obvious that the Sabayon 64bit ISO images in the future should rather be labeled 'x86_64' than 'amd64'. A causal user should not be required to know history of processor industry in order to figure out whether given ISO supports his processor or does not.
