hp deskjet d1560 help [Solved]

Postby teufel » Fri Dec 04, 2009 1:42

hi there.

i followed

"HOWTO: Install a HP Printer
From Sabayon
Jump to: navigation, search

Installing a HP printer under Sabayon Linux

Installing HP printer under Sabayon Linux the easy way.

1). First you want to install hplip. You can either find the package in sulfur or just type "equo install hplip" in the console. If prompted to add a config, you can merge it and hplip will be added to startup.

2). Once it's installed, open hplip."

from http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Install_a_HP_Printer

but then when i run hp-setup
i got this answer:

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.7)
Printer/Fax Setup Utility ver. 9.0

Using connection type: usb

error: No device selected/specified or that supports this functionality.

and my sabayon 5 doesn't seem to recognise any printer. i say this cuz when i plug the printer usb i got no message sayin that something has been plugged in as i got when, say, i plug a pendrive.

i then run lsusb and then

sabayon jovane # lsusb

teufel hi.
search here for your printer
http://www.openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=Dell
if your printer is supported then specific installation instruction will also be given.

teufel. will require some more info from you in order to help.
what version of sabayon ?
32 or 64 bit ?
kde or gnome ?
are you fully updated ?

also are you using CUPS to install your printer, in web browser of your choice enter & execute the following url.
http://localhost:631/
from here you can get all the info you need to install & use your printer..

2.8.7 is an old version of HPLIP. The latest version is 3.9.10. You could try installing that, plus the latest version of CUPS (1.4.2-r1), neither of which are in Entropy yet so you would need to use Portage:

Code: Select all
# emerge --sync
# layman -S
# emerge -1v cups
# emerge -1v hplip

And the following to update the Entropy package list database on your PC to know the versions installed via Portage:
Code: Select all
# equo database gentoosync

thanx a lot for your help, both catalys and fitzcarraldo.

answering 1st to catalyst:

mine is the latest version of sabayon (5.0), 32 bit, kde and "fully" updated (there's update everyday)
http://localhost:631/
i've tried that and the result was after going to "administration", "add printer" and being asked to type my user name and password:

Add Printer Error

Error:

Forbidden

(i've done those steps following the instructions of a friend of mine who uses sabayon as well).

thanx catalyst.

now, fitzcarraldo.

o, now i got it: i've never used portage before so i'd never install the latest version of both hplip and cups.
another thing: is there anything to do the fact that my sabayon doesn't recognise anything when i attach my printer? it's because those drivers are missing? cuz whenever a attach a pendriver i got a message saying so.

but anyway i'll try these instruction and post the result.

thanx fitzcarraldo.

teufel.
in cups localhost the user name is the word " root " not your user name or the name of your computer, then put in your root password. Give that a shot.

catalyst64!

i got it! at least partially :)

everything worked just fine (i only had doubt about the connection step. i then chose "socket://address:9100" cuz i read there that it was an hp Common Device URIs. afterwards i got this far:

Go hp Go

Driver:
HP Deskjet d1500 Series, hpcups 3.9.10 (color)

i sent a print test page and it didn't work
this is the problem i think: "Não é possível localizar a impressora 'address'!" "it's not possible to find printer's 'address'".

and besides, sabayon does not seem to recognise my printer. what do you say? check this out:

sabayon jovane # lsusb

no hp device or something like that...

thanx a lot, catalyst64!

teufel.
Sorry mate, from here on in I'm at a loss to assist you any further as i don't have a hp printer & hp printers have more specific installation requirements than most others.
That said, there is still hope that someone with more extensive knowledge on hp printers will be able to assist you.

Best of luck: catalyst64
