Booting problem, blank screen

Postby nugro » Mon Oct 19, 2009 19:56

Okay this is my first time using sabayon and i have one big problem; it won't boot live dvd at all, showing blank screen after selecting any mode on live dvd grub (including console mode) and i have to hard reset to get out.

I've read the faq and have tried all cheat codes for video driver (xdriver:radeonHD and ogl), no apic mode,vga=771, noddc etc. to no afail.

I've tried installing the dvd on my friend and virtual machine so it seems the dvd isn't the problem...
My spec is : desktop pc with amd tri core 720, radeon HD3850 pcie, realtek alc888,lcd monitor with 1360x768 native res if that will help

please help me, i really want to use this distro and am impressed by it on my friend's machine... :(

edit-forgot to mention i'm trying Sabayon 5 Kde x86 version

hm... what do you see before that black screen?

Also, though it did work for your friend you should probably check the integrity of your disk anyway, just to be extra sure.

last screen before the blank screen is the menu for choosing mode, after that nothing more is showing up, not even on console mode... i've burn 2 dvd for this but all right, i'll check it anyway.

the iso is fine, i tried using my friend's monitor out of desperate attempt and still no luck...
this is the first distro i've ever tried which can't even past boot screen and i'm running out of idea of what might be the problem :/

If it doesn't even get to the "loading linux" box (or loading minirtz.gz), then my guess is that your problem is your CD/DVD drive not liking to play with DVD-based distros. You can test this by attempting to boot from a USB stick instead, or switching out your DVD/CD drive, or just booting the image straight from your hard disk. More information for booting without a DVD drive here:
