How do I get Entropy to ignore Emerged Packages?

Post by fusion809 » Wed Sep 30, 2015 23:53

Hi,

I know whenever I emerge a new package I'm meant to mask it with Entropy, but sadly I got quite a bit behind before I realized this and now whenever I run

Code: Select all

equo update && equo upgrade -a
as root I get something like:

Image

which continues on for pages. As you can see [spm-db->sabayon-weekly] is a common occurance, wherein its downgrading from the package versions I installed with Portage to those available in the Sabayon weekly repo. Is there a way to mask all packages I emerged without having to manually add them to the command:

Code: Select all

equo mask <package-1> <package-2> <package-3>...<package-n>
?

As always, thank you for your time,
Brenton

for making "compatible" Portage and Entropy you need:

To edit the file /etc/entropy/client.conf and in the line called "ignore pseudo downgrades", you can change "disable" to "enable". NO MORE CHANGE THIS, this is mandatory to use Portage with Entropy!

In this manner, in will not more have downgrade of packages...

suppose now you will install something with portage...

edit your make conf , then execute

Code: Select all

emerge --sync
install the package with emerge.. it will be the PACKAGE 1 example...

now, your package will works, until a "newer" version of it is in entropy... only newer ones, no more older ones

Sometimes, execute this command

Code: Select all

equo rescue spm sync

Can you please stop making so many posts about using Portage in here?

We do not support using Portage and your posts only confuse people who are searching for answers.

Sorry joost, but where else am I meant to ask these questions? I'm not asking questions here for the fun of it, I'm asking them because I need answers, I thought that's what this forum was for. If Portage is not supported then why do we have a board dedicated to questions relating to Portage? If you would prefer, I could ask any questions relating to Portage in that board (and ignore the fact that this question also has something to do with Entropy), but I felt as Entropy was the major topic of this post I should make this post on this board.

I hope this response, does not seem antagonistic, it is not intended to be, I think everyone, myself included, respects the work you do for the Sabayon community and you have helped me on more than one occasion with questions I have posted here. My questions in this response, are genuine and sincere, not sarcastic or rhetorical, I'm wanting to know how I can ask these questions in a way that will not upset you.

My post was a bit blunt perhaps, but don't forget we (can't) really support mixing Portage with Entropy. On several occasions this breaks people's systems if they dunno what they are doing. Just keep that in mind. 8)
