How to update from Sabayon 9 to 13?

Postby yokmp » Thu Nov 14, 2013 13:49

Hi,
on my old Laptop runs Sabayon 9. Ive never needed it for a long time until now. I just wanted to update to install some Software but i cant. 'equo update' always tells me that the Repositoryis up to date but it isnt (equo --version tells me its 1.0_rc120). When i try to 'equo upgrade' i cant find any packages. I now try to update equo and rigo with emerge.

Is it a know issue that one cant update Sabayon after some Time has passed? And is there a better way to upgrade than the use of emerge?

Really, best would be, you backup your personal data, make a checklist of the programs, you've installed on Sab 9 manually and then make a clean new installation with a new Sab 13 release. Install your programs also (new) again and restore your personal data. You will prevent a lot of upgrading problems (my experience).

Even though I wouldn't encourage anybody to lag behind like that, it shouldn't be that dramatic.
If I were you, I would do this:
Code: Select all
equo update
equo install sys-apps/portage --nodeps
equo install sys-apps/entropy app-admin/equo --nodeps
cp /etc/entropy/repositories.conf{.example,}
cp /etc/entropy/repositories.conf.d/entropy_sabayonlinux.org{.example,}
equo update # just to make sure...
equo install sys-libs/glibc --relaxed # if it does pull in a lot of crap, use --nodeps
equo install base-gcc:4.7 --relaxed # ditto
equo upgrade --purge # cross fingers
# do not forget to equo conf update
