Is delta download support really working?

Hi,

I discovered this and stopped cleaning my cache (autoprune-days set to 45 days, should be enough?), packages-delta is enabled in client.conf.

However, I did not notice any difference in download amounts, equo always seemed to look for delta packages, but then retrieved the full packages.

Are deltas still produced on the servers? Or do they maybe hit the servers later than the regular full ones? I check for updates frequently and have normally sabayonlinux.org + limbo enabled. Does the limbo repo have deltas, at all?

It is important for me because I live in the US now for a while and I don't have unlimited data...

So: how do I set entropy up so I can use the delta feature?

Many thanks,
ElDuderino

I remember, it requires dev-util/bsdiff to work.

I have that installed.

Here what equo output looks like, what does it tell me exactly about edeltas? It mentions them, but seems to procede to downloading the whole packages. I'm not sure, however...

Disable packages-autoprune-days and enable packages-delta in /etc/entropy/client.conf

Don't forget to never use equo cleanup, you need to keep the downloaded packages!

You can see here, it works:

Code: Select all

>>   ## Aggregated download: 2 items
>>    # [1] na.mirror.garr.it => sys-kernel+linux-sabayon-3.10.9-r1.4647943877c6a6f0263f3cb925b701596cd9013c~0~4d816628c64068adcc7ae85f26c924b9408bcd24bdf1daba024e84648d2405d8.edelta
