New To Entropy... CAN'T INSTALL ANYTHING... HELP!

Postby EpicComputerMan » Mon Jul 01, 2013 15:05

There's gotta be a simple fix to this problem I'm having... I'm new to Sabayon and Entropy... trying really hard to understand how it works.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I TRY TO INSTALL ANYTHING BY USING EQUO INSTALL PROGRAMNAMEHERE:">>
>> Entropy/Equo version mismatch: it could make your system explode!
>> (205 [equo] & 189 [entropy])
>>
>> Hi. My name is Bug Reporter. I am sorry to inform you that the program crashed. Well, you know, shit happens.
>> But there's something you could do to help me to be a better application.
>> -- BUT, DO NOT SUBMIT THE SAME REPORT MORE THAN ONCE --
>> Now I am showing you what happened. Don't panic, I'm here to help you.

I'm not sure how you did it, but you've somehow updated entropy without updating equo. Installing any of those packages should pull in the other as a dependency.

Luckily, we've got portage as a backup package manager to get you up and running again.

And, I would write it all out, but the wiki does a better job: http://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title ... ng_Portage

After that, entropy and equo should work again.

The only way I can think of your entropy and equo being mismatched would be if you had done the following:
Code: Select all
#equo install entropy --nodeps

Which would updated entropy, but not equo or any of the other necessary entropy tools.

If you wish to update entropy without pulling in a ridiculous amount of dependencies, try this in the future:
Code: Select all
#equo install entropy --relaxed

@EpicComputerMan
Yeah, once you follow the Wiki and all is good again.
Please post back the steps (if known) that got you to the an updated entropy without updating equo.
I am interested to see that ... :?

NOT SURE WHAT THIS MEANS: "epiccomputerman@unitedstates ~ $ equo install entropy --relaxed

Never really seen a results like that........
You can wait until a dev takes a look at the post.
However if I were to encounter a results as the one above I would
Question the download
Download load again the Appropriate iso for my computer.
Burn it again
Reinstall Again.
You can spend 20 minutes reinstalling or Hours/Days working on the mess above..
Especially seeing that type of response to a

You didn't follow my post.

Follow the wiki link instructions to get entropy working again: http://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title ... ng_Portage
