Help: Rigo hanging [Solved]

Postby B3rtm3n » Thu Apr 25, 2013 19:47

Good evening everybody

I never use package managers in Linux to update the system because too many bad experiences with these

I tried Rigo today

It keeps hanging like this ...

Code: Select all
>>  (44/90) ++ Application Install
>>    ## Unpacking: sys-kernel:linux-sabayon-3.8.8.294b1cbf17a51f150db62cbfc5a7707be9608448~1.tbz2
>>    ## Package phase: setup
>>    ## Package phase: preinstall
>>    ## Installing package: sys-kernel/linux-sabayon-3.8.8
>>    ## [Official Sabayon Linux Standard kernel image]
>>    ## Updating database: sys-kernel/linux-sabayon-3.8.8
>>    ## Package phase: preremove
>>    ## Cleaning previously installed application data.
>>    ## Package phase: postremove

Has anyone a clue what I could do

what if I close Rigo and did it with terminal instead or would my system become unstable?

Ok I just shutdown Rigo in the middle of the updates rebooted (no other option) and updated further with terminal

I used kernel switcher to upgrade to 3.8.8 using terminal

keeps hanging when updating grub.

Code: Select all
Generating grub.cfg ...
Found background: /boot/grub/default-splash.png
Found linux image: /boot/kernel-genkernel-x86_64-3.8.0-sabayon
Found initrd image: /boot/initramfs-genkernel-x86_64-3.8.0-sabayon
  No volume groups found
Found unknown Linux distribution on /dev/sda6
Found Zorin OS 6 (6) on /dev/sda8
Found Mac OS X on /dev/sdb1

Do not know if Chameleon is the reason grub keeps hanging, it is first time kernel switcher reacts like this.

I found a solution for skipping certain partitions for grub update here:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions ... on-741100/

however I am unable to try this as when boot Sabayon I enter into grub rescue mode with following error:

Code: Select all
'mount/sabayon/boot/grub/I386-pc/normal.mod' not found

how can I solve this error?

same here with kernel 3.7.10, updating with console

Code: Select all
/usr/sbin/grub2-probe --device /dev/mapper/vg_laptop01-lv_root --target=fs_uuid

it eats 100% CPU and simply keeps eating

Since this seems to be hardware specific, you need to try debugging yourself. Maybe in the end it won't be that "hardware specific" :)

Thanks for replying. I reinstalled the complete system, that was the fastest solution.

Maybe for you linux gods debuggins is something easy but for me it is something I do not understand.
