using sabayon-frozen [Solved]

Postby prometheos » Thu Apr 18, 2013 15:42

Hi! I am looking after a mean to make sabayon11 less shaky (make life less adventurous for beginners).
So I am playing around with sabayon-frozen11.
I think I need all repos disabled (or deleted) except sabayon-frozen.
This is my repo directory /etc/entropy/repositories.conf.d:
ls -1
README
_entropy_sabayon-limbo
_entropy_sabayon-limbo.example
_entropy_sabayon-weekly
entropy_sabayon-frozen.conf
entropy_sabayonlinux.org.example
entropy_sabayonlinux.org.keep
entropy_sabayonlinux.org_130303orig.keep
entropy_server.example

But equo shows (commands list/disable/remove shown here):
LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 /usr/bin/equo repo list
sabayonlinux.org
Sabayon Linux Official Repository
sabayon-frozen
Sabayon 11 Frozen Repository

LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 /usr/bin/equo repo disable sabayonlinux.org
>> [sabayonlinux.org] cannot disable repository

LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 /usr/bin/equo repo remove sabayonlinux.org
>> [sabayonlinux.org] cannot remove repository

I obtain similiar resuts also with rigo or sulfur.
Am I on the wrong trip? I think in this situation the idea of sabayon-frozen is crippled: if sabayonlinux.org is not disabled, I will get my upgrades from frozen AND org, and I can not isolate my installation from changings in repos!
But I hope I am wrong...
- Sorry if I am doing something unconventionally: this is my first post here.

Regards,
prometheos

@ Ryuno-Ki, excuse me for not having tried the structuring tools from the very beginning!
And also, I was out of home for a couple of days, and could not dedicate me to the problem . Here I am back!

I use Sabayon since April 2012. I find there the big challange is to keep pace with the development of the repositories. While you are hold up by a problem you cannot update, and the updates will pile up behind your back. After you solved your problem, you could update... but it will be long yob. And it may break by itself, as the problem gets more and more complex. You know the problems of the last update, not those of the next.

I help myself by making experimental (installations and) updates un USB disks, which I use as an emergency platform when my W520 is down

While you are hold up by a problem you cannot update, and the updates will pile up behind your back. After you solved your problem, you could update... but it will be long yob. Well, my foreword comes to an end: from the announcement of the repo Sabayon Frozen http://www.danilopianini.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=55:announcing-sabayon-frozen-10-repository&catid=6:articles&Itemid=23 I think I cold use it a as securely still repository. For instance: no breakage because of a mismatching update.

I start by disabling my repos by renaming all of them except "frozen", in /etc/entropy/repositories.conf.d:
Code: Select all
ls -1
README
_entropy_sabayon-limbo
_entropy_sabayon-limbo.example
_entropy_sabayon-weekly
entropy_sabayon-frozen.conf
entropy_sabayonlinux.org.example
entropy_sabayonlinux.org.keep
entropy_sabayonlinux.org_130303orig.keep
entropy_server.example

Equo shows:
Code: Select all
equo repo list
sabayonlinux.org
Sabayon Linux Official Repository
sabayon-frozen
Sabayon 11 Frozen Repository
equo repo disable sabayonlinux.org
>> [sabayonlinux.org] cannot disable repository
equo repo remove sabayonlinux.org
>> [sabayonlinux.org] cannot remove repository

I obtain similiar resuts also with rigo or sulfur. It seems to me, that I can not disable the standard repos (org or weekly) after I have introduced frozen.
Am I on the wrong trip? I think in this situation the idea of sabayon-frozen is crippled: if sabayonlinux.org is not disabled, I will get my upgrades from frozen and org, and I can not isolate my installation from changings in the repos!
Thank You in advance for Your help!

Hy! With time I think I got the answer by myself.
On adding the frozen repo on a second machine - by editing the file entropy_sabayon-frozen I got the error:
equo repo enable sabayon-frozen
>> Repository sabayon-frozen wurde noch nicht heruntergeladen.
>> Repositorium sabayon-frozen ist nicht verfügbar. Kann nicht überprüft werden
>> RepositoryError()
>> !!! Bitte aktualisiere jetzt deine Repositories damit diese Meldung verschwindet!
>> [sabayon-frozen] Repositorium aktiviert

(Sorry for the german tokens! I think by myself, we should keep communicating as much as possible in English, at least in this quite small community.) Indeed my next equo update brought everithing in order, allowing me then to disable the standars repo:
Code: Select all
 equo repo list
>> Repository sabayon-frozen wurde noch nicht heruntergeladen.
>> Repositorium sabayon-frozen ist nicht verfügbar. Kann nicht überprüft werden
>> RepositoryError()
>> !!! Bitte aktualisiere jetzt deine Repositories damit diese Meldung verschwindet!

Now I have both repos but no more warnings:
Code: Select all
 equo repo list
  sabayon-frozen
    Sabayon 11 Frozen Repository
  sabayonlinux.org
    Sabayon Linux Official Repository

Now I try to disable the official repo, to remain only with frozen:
Code: Select all
equo repo disable sabayonlinux.org
>> [sabayonlinux.org] Repositorium deaktiviert

And indeed, at once the system tells me that I have 602 "updates" waiting. Those must be the 602 downgrades from my fresh Sabayon 13.4 back to 11. That is just what I hoped to get.

Thanks for your patience!
