Rigo & installing Updates [Solved]

Post by B3rtm3n » Tue Dec 25, 2012 12:47

I am used to Entropy Store but I like Rigo too but Entropy offers better browsing of software although if still is a pain.

However Rigo demands for each package the admin password while with Entropy Store you just enter once the admin password and install plenty of packages. F.ex installing a package in Rigo you have to give password, wait a fex seconds before it start or click ok etc. To much nonsense of clicking and passwords, too much Windows like.
Hope you guys will use one day the same as in Entropy Store, just one password when starting Rigo and that's it, or is there another solution?

I also use Konsole to install updates, is there a way to always accept the license for the updates to install instead of each time press 3 to accept?

Sorry, to be Glib..
Just my way of saying..
Being Stopped for a password is a good idea for most.

You could use emerge like so.. Which I believe should work

Code: Select all

emerge packagename  packagename2  packagename3
a periodic syncing with

Code: Select all

 emerge --sync
is also a good idea
as is to sync the overlays added

Code: Select all

layman -S
EDIT: Decided I should remove the ampersands from emerge line..

BTW.. just thought of this..
I use for searching packages On the CLI the utility eix

From a terminal

Code: Select all

emerge eix && eix-update && eix-remote update
... but can be installed from RIGO
Once installed here is an example of output... quite nice
bobssl410 sqlpython # eix joe
* app-editors/joe
Available versions: 3.5 3.7-r1 {xterm}
Homepage: http://sourceforge.net/projects/joe-editor/
Description: A free ASCII-Text Screen Editor for UNIX

Don't use Rigo myself, but have you tried launching it from the command line using the kdesu command (gksu if you are using GNOME or Xfce)? Then it will run as root user with your environment, and should hopefully prompt you for the root user's password once only:

Code: Select all

$ kdesu rigo

Yes, there is:

Code: Select all

# yes "3" | equo install <package1 name> <package2 name> <package3 name>
(I'm not sure why sqlpython is telling you about Portage commands when you asked about Entropy.)

^ I answered with emerge as it is my way of getting it done for multiple packages with one command.
Sorry, didn't intend on confusing anyone.
Lot's of ways of getting to a solution with Sabayon .. ;^)
