How to install a list of applications? [Solved]

Post by desputin » Sat Dec 01, 2012 0:39

Hi,

I come from the "world of apt-get" and I'm used to install a list of programs right at the start.
I would like to do this under sabayon too.

Is there a way of doing something like this with sabayon?

Code: Select all

apt-get install firefox thunderbird gedit clementine k3b

?

Best regards

Code: Select all

echo apt-get install firefox thunderbird gedit clementine k3b | sed 's:^apt-get:equo:'

You can get more informations about entropy (and equo) in the wiki:
https://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title=Entropy

Or in the man page:

Code: Select all

man equo

You can even build a list of the installed packages in one system:

Code: Select all

equo query list installed --quiet > somefile.txt

And install them back into another system:
(as root)

Code: Select all

equo install --ask $(cat somefile.txt)

Thank you! Looks great!

@micia:
With

Code: Select all

equo query list installed --quiet > somefile.txt

I get a list that looks like this:

Code: Select all

gnome-base/libgnome-keyring
gnome-base/libgnomecanvas
gnome-base/librsvg
gnome-extra/gnome-audio
java-virtuals/jaf
java-virtuals/javamail
kde-base/akonadiconsole
kde-base/akregator
kde-base/amor

Do I have to remove everything before the / in every line or does this command:

Code: Select all

equo install --ask $(cat somefile.txt)

Install the programs even if there is the "category" in front of every package?

It will work, actually that's even a wanted effect, since it will resolve ambiguous package names.

One last question:

If a package name within this list is spelled incorrectly (e.g. frefox or liberoffice) is it ignored or does the whole installation process abort? Or will the respective package be ignored?

The mispelled package is ignored, you should get a message about it at the beginning of the procedure.
