Freeing space

Postby manifesto » Mon Oct 29, 2012 15:41

Hi,

My root part (has everything for system but no user data) is nearly full.

Code: Select all
sabayon ~ # df -hk .
Filesystem     1K-blocks     Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda9       20161172 16698592   2438440  88% /
sabayon ~ # du -sk /var
3754944 /var

I did equo cleanup try to remove some pakages but it is not that efficient.
16Gb is quite big for a desktop system (I could remove or 2GB from /var) and I do find so much to remove.
I have only 2 kernels installed.

Question 1 : I found equo unusedpackages --sortbysize which helps me to find some big packages but is there such option for all packages (list equo query installed --sortbysize) ?

Question 2 : I have several versions of gcc/python but I cant remove them for dependancies.
Do I need to have 3 versions of gcc and python ?

Code: Select all
sabayon ~ # equo  query installed gcc

Not necessary. in order for not remove dependencies, carry out these comands. ex.

Code: Select all
sudo equo remove --nodeps gcc-4.5.3-r2

this will remove only the 4.5.3-r2 version. Then proceed similarly with the other versions that you need to remove.

after, set the correct version of python (if present, because you used Portage, also AVOID python 3 versions) and gcc:

Code: Select all
eselect python list
sudo eselect python set number (number is the name of the newer python version that appeared in the preceeding command)
gcc-config -l (see the number of the newer gcc present, you may use the default or the vanilla GCC)
sudo gcc-config number (as number, use the number of the default or the vanilla gcc)

after you made all above, not mandatory, but you may carry these commands:

Code: Select all
sudo equo libtest
sudo equo deptest
sudo env-update
sudo source /etc/profile
