Sulfur vs rigo

Postby jemadux » Sun Oct 28, 2012 14:58

hey from Greece, I just testing now sabayon ... and I will keep it .. but
one question , what's the difference betweet both sulfur and rigo ?

i know that rigo is lightweight but i prefer sufflur as my system ..
also in most distributions that I was used i prefered command line interface for installing

I dont know nothing about gentoo or sabayon , but I think I will keep on my system

sulfur is the manager for stuff from Gentoo
on terminal you have to do something like emerge wine etc, it starts kompiling native code from gentoo servers

Rigo is the Gui - Version to handle the Sabayon Repo
on terminal you can use equo search / install wine from sabayon repo - servers

by the way, the equo command is a tool for using entropy......

all thes things you can read at wiki.sabyon.org by putting your mouse in the browser on the right top blue entropy letters
which is placed in the red "Package Manager En:Entropy"

Sulfur was an Old GUI of entropy (not Gentoo/Portage)

ups, is equo not the entropy thing?

It was replaced from Rigo

equo is the commandline client to entropy
rigo is the gui client to entropy
sulfur is an old gui client to entropy, no longer developed on.

Sulfur is not for Gentoo packages, is not for Portage.

SULFUR is the old GUI for Entropy, equo command, Newer is RIGO...

For Gentoo packages you should use emerge command, or a GUI for Portage as Porthole.

But if you want to use Portage togheter with Entropy, it is not a good thingto make directly,

because prior some configs should be modified. Using Both the 2 package installers is not recommended as routine or for begginers in Sabayon.

Moved from 'Portage|Emerge Package Managers' shed to 'Entropy|Equo|Sulfur Package Managers' shed, as the latter more appropriate.

Zenck, for remove Rigo, this is only can be made with --nodeps option. if not carried i this manner. The cammand remove entropy and equo also, and the Sabayon no more works good.

Eselect command exists and works in sabayon, as is gentoo. but it is not useful for choose between Portage and Entropy.
Therefore, Both Rigo and Sulfur are for Entropy and not to Portage. Also... Portage cannot be removed, it is a system crucial dependence and Entropy uses some parts of Portage.

About Sulfur: Install Sulfur as Micia said, an you may remove or not Rigo.
No conflicts, install Sulfur and open it, but mantain Rigo closed...

But i have in Mind that in the last upgraded Sabayons, new Entropy, Sulfur may be no more open, due to code modifications. Sulfur is old ad is now died code.:

Code: Select all
