Sabayon Linux Official Repository

Post by speedyx » Tue Nov 22, 2011 11:56

What is the Sabayon Linux Official Repository?
In one installation I have sabayonlinux.org and in another installation sabayon-weekly.org.
Is it the same?

sabayon-weekly gets updated just once per week and gets its updates from sabayonlinux.org repo.
Both are official but to avoid too many updates, sabayon-weekly is the recommended one.

FORUM HELP: Sorry but the link don't refer to the sabayon mania site even if I write the post correct!

^Test:

I typed 'h t t p : / / s a b a y o n - m a n i a . c o m' here: http://google.com

Hey, speedyx, if I were you I'd file a bug report in the SL Bugzilla. Seems that the forum software is converting the Sabayon Mania Wiki URL to Google's URL! I'm looking at the raw text in the Edit Post box and it shows the correct URL in that box, but the URL in the post is for Google. Bizarre bug.

Hi folks,

I also would know, what is the default repo and the best practice.
When I installed with the official Sabayon_Linux_7_amd64_K.iso I got the sabayon-weekly as default repo.
But installed with the latest daily from 25th of January there the sabayonlinux.org is the default repo.
And here I found http://lists.sabayon.org/pipermail/deve ... 06362.html
Where it is written:

Code: Select all

> The aim is to offer the ability to downgrade packages in a very
> painless way, just hook the repository in and select the packages as
> downgrade
So why are not both repos available when doing standard installation to have this "downgrade feature" available?
It would be nice if this is marked as "TODO" for the next release.

Even if so, why is it then that on one installation I get the weekly repository as default and for the other installation the sabayonlinux.org.
On the other hand if it is done with both repositories there could be the resolution for not getting in confilcts, that one of the repos is disabled by default and should only be used in case of errors (similar to the not active limbo by design).
And I know I can add them by myself and manage it like explained, but this question was just to get informations, why this behavior is so different from one to another installation. And what is the recommended repository by design.
Perhaps this should be explained by Fabio, to get an definite answer.
greetings
