/usr/src/linux [Solved]

Postby apiaio » Sat Nov 07, 2009 21:09

Hi there.
I have both Gentoo and Sabayon (Funtoo as well) installed on one machine. Gentoo is my primary installation, but for notebook(s)/netbok(s) I plan to install Sabayon using the simplest way for installation and upgrade - entropy. One thing I miss when upgrade kernel using equo is almost empty directory /usr/src/linux. There is many useful informations in this Gentoo's directory which I would like to have available on the notebook's installation. My questions:
- Is it possible to populate Sabayong's /usr/src/linux directory with the folders and files like under Gentoo?
- If yes. It will be possible to run command
Code: Select all
make menuconfig
?
Thanks

Excellent. Sabayon rocks. Solved.

To be sure I have to ask - ( I don't plan to do that in the near future ). What will happend if I modify .config and recompile kernel using commands
Code: Select all
make
make modules install
?

I use genkernel (see the Wiki article HOWTO: Upgrade kernel using genkernel) to rebuild/upgrade the kernel, as it takes care of everything, including launching Menuconfig. Yes, you can edit /usr/src/linux/.config before running it, but I have found that, unless you edit .config 'perfectly', the edits you make are not picked up, so it's always worth checking in Menuconfig.
