how to install mediawiki (mainly using equo)

Postby elefant23 » Mon Oct 12, 2009 4:58

Dear Sabayon People!
I would like to install mediawiki as my personal wikipedia site.
Formerly, I used Portage / emerge in S4.2 and emerge mediawiki did the work.
But from S5.0, (did scratch install) I use Entropy / equo as main package manager, and seems to me that mediawiki isn't in Entropy / Sabayon Official Repository.
Many pages[1][2] tells me not to mix equo and emerge, so I would like to know what is the proper Sabayon /Entropy style to install packages that are not in equo package repository, such as mediawiki.

* "emerge -av medeiawiki", and then "equo database gentoosync"? Seems to me that installing web-apps such as mediawiki via Portage is not so harmful to Entropy system. Is the case exception of "never mix equo and emerge"?
* Would I find mediawiki package in Community Repository? I've looked http://wiki.sabayonlinux.org/index.php? ... positories but seems to me that all repositories listed here are no longer used... If I would find, please let me know.

BTW, my machine is AMD64.
Thank you in advance!

I would install apache, mysql and php using equo. Then install mediawiki as instructed on their site, i see no advantage in using the portage provided packages personally.

Thev00d00, thank you for your reply.
The further problem I faced was the conflict between of ssmtp vs postfix.
When I try to install php, equo tells me to uninstall postfix and revert to ssmtp. But unfortunately I do need postfix.
I did see a topic[1] talking about ssmtp and postfix issue, but couldn't find solution to this.

equo is definitely a great tool and I like it, but I will seek other methods.
Anyways, thanks a lot!
