Uninstall x264 libs = Uninstall 196 packages?! [Solved]

Postby Merlin7777 » Sun Oct 11, 2009 23:57

I usually compile and install X264 directly from Git myself, as I encode a lot and like to keep an up-to-date version lying around. Since Sabayon has an old version installed, I wanted to uninstall it using equo, but when I do so, it wants to uninstall about 196 packages, which is ridiculous. I could uninstall it with emerge, but I'm trying to train myself to use equo instead.

Is there a reason why it wants to uninstall some many other packages?

One idea that I had would be for me to submit my own builds to the entropy system, that way everyone would stay updated more often. Is there a way to do this?

If you want to remove a package without also removing the dependencies use "--nodeps". e.g.
Code: Select all
equo remove packagename --nodeps

merlin you should create a community repository! I would be interested as I too use x264 often.

Check out the below link:

Hmm... community repository aye? I just might have to look into that. It won't be tomorrow, but maybe this week I can look at getting one up and running. I'll have to figure out how to package a non-portage, self-compiled binary for equo. First I need to look at setting up a full repository, then we can worry about packaging x264.

Thanks for the responses by the way. The --nodeps flag is what I was looking for.

In limbo testing repository.

In /etc/entropy/repositories.conf

add

Code: Select all
repository|sabayon-limbo|Sabayon Linux Limbo Repository|http://svn.sabayonlinux.org/entropy|http://svn.sabayonlinux.org/entropy#bz2

Note 1: that ^^ this is 1 line.
Note 2: Allot of updates available too. You probably do not need to install all the updates, if you don't want to. In the end you will anyway as its work towards 5.1.
Note 3: Its not likely BUT its possible that something breaks.

Yeah, I thought about this, but I usually deal with the latest Git revisions. If I do create a repository, it will usually host the latest git version.
