Hi I`m a newbie and I`ve spent about half a day getting this to work. How in the heck do I do this? I`ve read the wiki a number of times, I`ve followed the directions exactly on what to do for a new install and all I get is grief. . I notice a number of posts from people having similar problems. All I want to do is update my system . I`ve used Spritz to update the repository but it seems to quit before it finishes. Solutions please

Try, as root user in a Terminal/Konsole window, the following command:

Code: Select all
equo update --force

If that doesn't work, see if the following thread helps: viewtopic.php?f=76&t=16982

Started having a similar issue lately. Tried everything in the wiki and all the linked posts returned by a couple of searches on the errors. No luck. I crosschecked everything with my old machine running 32-bit (which worked fine) and didn't see any issues right away. I finally found a post by someone back on 3.5 who had a similar issue. As it turns out, equo was using a database url of http://svn.sabayonlinux.org/entropy/sta ... /amd64/4.2 which returns a 404 error. Looking again at repositories.conf, I edited the line "branch|4.2" to read "branch|4" and functioning urls and database paths appeared. Was the "4.2" change something that was intended by the devs? I didn't manually make the change.

I too have spent the entire day trying to simply update my fresh install....well 3 fresh installs hoping this problem would just go away. I finally got it working just now at like 3:30 am.....the reason I couldn't update was because of ipv6 internet protocol.....I found this thread and did what it said and problem solved http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-87798.html just add the 3 lines mentioned in this thread to your aliases.conf file and reboot.......and it worked for me so I hope this helps someone going through what I went through.

to get limbo repo working I had to add in these new lines:

Code: Select all
repository|sabayon-limbo|Sabayon Linux Limbo Repository|http://pkg.sabayonlinux.org/entropy|http://pkg.sabayonlinux.org
repository|sabayon-limbo|Sabayon Limbo|http://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/sabayonlinux/entropy|http://pkg.sabayon.org,sabayon.org

a simple howto and please note, this effects all version of Sabayon Linux

Open terminal

1. as user type su and enter root password
2. cd /etc/entropy/
3. mv /etc/entropy/repositories.conf /etc/entropy/repositories.old
4. wget http://wolf911.us/sabayon/files/repositories.conf
5. equo update --force

if you want limbo you need to add lines to repositories.conf file
Code: Select all
repository|sabayon-limbo|Sabayon Linux Limbo Repository|http://pkg.sabayonlinux.org/entropy|http://pkg.sabayonlinux.org
repository|sabayon-limbo|Sabayon Limbo|http://na.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/sabayonlinux/entropy|http://pkg.sabayon.org,sabayon.org

For whoever that has no idea what Limbo is about: Its a testing repository. We use it to stash packages that need to be tested by our team before we can move them to the main repository.

FYI at the moment latest Xorg is in there as we are waiting (since last October) for AMD to come up with drivers that support this version. Until then we will keep it in there. But any other package we want to test CAN popup in there, so always be carefull.

If you added Limbo and want to revert to main the procedure is simple.

- Remove the Limbo lines from /etc/entropy/repositories.conf
- run equo update
- run equo upgrade

If you are lesser experienced with Gentoo/Sabayon or Linux in general you do not wan't to add this.

Ok I had trouble with sabayon 5.1 saying " Repository sabayonlinux.org hasn't been downloaded yet.
>> Repository sabayonlinux.org is not available. Cannot validate"
so I've downloaded and installed sabayon 5.2 gnome_64 and again i have the same trouble.....I have followed this tutorial http://wiki.sabayon.org/index.php?title ... t_to_do.3F as well as the information about changing /etc/entropy/repositories.conf posted by Wolfden above and I still have the same trouble......now I know i changed the repos properly because my etc/entropy/repositories.conf was completly empty and I copied and pasted Wolfden's version above.....is there something I am missing? help please I want to run sabayon cause its super cool but how long can I run a system I cant update or install packages to?
