how do i uninstall entropy?

Postby colegu » Sat Oct 25, 2008 12:24

Code: Select all
>>  Scanning Portage and Entropy databases for differences...
>>  @@ Someone added these packages. Would be added/updated into the Entropy database:
>>    # dev-util/intltool-0.40.5
>>    # sys-fs/udev-130-r1
>>  ++ (1/2) >>> Adding dev-util/intltool-0.40.5
>>  ++ (2/2) >>> Adding sys-fs/udev-130-r1
>>  @@ Database update completed.

the reason for this post is that i dont want that enropy database anymore, so i want to get rid of it once and for all, since i want to compile all my updates.
emerge -C entropy doesnt work since there aint any package called entropy.

thanx in advance.

Does the above command remove absolutely everything relating to Entropy/Equo/Spritz from one's HDD? Are any directories or configuration files left on disk?

And what about the Entropy-related entries in /etc/make.conf? Does the above-mentioned emerge -C remove those too?

(Does anyone have a list of all the directories and files pertaining to Entropy/Equo/Spritz?)

Entropy's design has progressed since the above posts. What are the steps to remove Entropy completely for SL 5.0?

Is the following list correct?

Code: Select all
# emerge -C sys-apps/entropy app-admin/equo app-admin/sulfur sys-apps/entropy-client-services app-misc/magneto-loader kde-misc/magneto-kde sys-apps/magneto-core
# rm /etc/portage/bashrc.entropy
# rm -rf /var/log/entropy
# rm -rf /usr/lib/entropy
# rm -rf /var/lib/entropy
# rm -rf /etc/entropy

Also edit /etc/make.conf and change PORT_LOGDIR=/var/lib/entropy/logs to e.g. PORT_LOGDIR=/var/lib/portage

Have I missed something?

EDIT (February 26, 2010): I did all of the above a couple of months ago and it worked perfectly.

I've seen many posts regarding conflicts between entropy and portage and I have also seen posts suggesting to stick to portage after the first world update of entropy.

Would the above post on how to uninstall entropy still work for Sabayon 5.1-r1? If not, how do i completely uninstall entropy so that it does not give conflicting update notices?

Thank you.

I think you have your information wrong

If you want to go portage, you want to start rebuilding starting with the config files and than recompile the system and than world updating. This is why we have a core-cd as it works best for this route.

You need to decide which packager manager you want and should stick with it. Entropy is recommend for new people.

You still remove it the same way and you can always emerge --depclean

thank you for the clarification.

i noticed that the above instructions are for KDE.

are the instructions for Gnome the same? ... except replacing KDE with the word Gnome?

I suggest using eix or the package manager and search the program, besides, you don't need the category name to remove a program
