Press Release: Sabayon Linux 5.5 XFCE, LXDE, E17, ServerBase, OpenVZ EXPERIMENTAL releases

We are happy to announce the immediate availability of E17, XFCE, LXDE, SpinBase/OpenVZ, ServerBase Sabayon 5.5 "Spins" built on top of Sabayon "SpinBase" ISO images.
The E17 "stable-releases-are-for-n00bs" Desktop Environment, the well known XFCE and LXDE environments, the SpinBase+OpenVZ template ready to be used in server deployments, and last but not least, ServerBase, a very minimal Sabayon release with a server-optimized Linux kernel.

    Features of Sabayon 5.5 E17 Spin:
  • Bootable Image suitable for a CD or USB thumb drive (<700Mb)
  • Linux 2.6.37 Desktop kernel w/TuxOnIce and AUFS support
  • Enlightenment 17 Desktop Environment recently built from SVN
  • NetworkManager 0.8 as default networking tool
  • Out of the box NTFS support via NTFS-3G
  • WebKit-based Midori 0.3.2 Browser
  • VirtualBox integration
  • Super fast installation
  • Very minimal setup to fit into a CD, no fancy features and drivers. Designed for low-end computers.

  • Very small footprint, yet providing a full feature OpenVZ guest Virtual Machine
  • OpenVZ template installation howto available at planet.sabayon.org

    Features of Sabayon 5.5 ServerBase:
  • Remastered Sabayon SpinBase release using server-optimized Linux 2.6.37 kernel (sys-kernel/linux-server)
  • Very small footprint, just like SpinBase, containing the bare minimum to make your system boot
