Opera web browser flash problems solved!

Post by ron_o » Sat Sep 01, 2007 22:26

This is my first post to SL forums. I hope this is in the right place. I didn't see any HOWTO section.

You can follow these directions and read up on it here:
http://my.opera.com/CrazyTerabyte/blog/ ... ntoo-linux

Most relevant section, and to quote just in case of a dead link:
The solutions:

The solution consists in telling Opera to not use /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so. This can be done in three ways:

Solution 1: Preferences -> Advanced -> Downloads ->
application/x-shockwave-flash swf -> Edit... -> Select the correct plugin at
"Use plug-in" drop-down (if more than one is displayed, select any one that does not contain "netscape" in path). Repeat this for application/futuresplash spl file
type. There is no need to restart Opera after this change.

Solution 2: Manually edit ~/.opera/opera6.ini while Opera is closed and change the paths.

Solution 3: Add "/opt/netscape/plugins=2" to ~/.opera/pluginpath.ini.
I used solution #3 to solve it. YMMV.

Tell me how it works.
From scratch:
Intel dg965wh mobo
G965 Chipset
Graphics (Intel® GMA X3000)
2Gb DDR2
Core2Duo 6400 (2.13Ghz)
3.3 mini 64bit at this moment.

I tried solution 1 and now I can view YouTube videos again! Now to find a way around the Opera temporary lockups when loading Flash content...

I've tried using all of the above solutions and none seem to work.

I'm running a fresh install of Sabayon 3.4, my first time using this distro, and a fresh install of Opera 9.23.

Flash, even Java, works in Firefox but not in Konqueror and Opera. Opera is essential to me and I've gotta get around this. Any further assistance, anyone?

Thanks!

Sorry to bump but this is really important to me.

For Konqueror, go to Settings -> Configure Konqueror. Then go to the Plugins menu option on the left. Click "Re-detect plugins". This should enable Flash and all that in Konqueror.
Opera is essential to me and I've gotta get around this.
For Opera (which is my dominant browser), I did the first option (change the settings on the spl and swf files to the non-netscape ones). After you do that, try restarting Opera just to make sure it works.
As for Java, emerge sun-jre-bin and Opera should be able to use Java now. To enable it, go to the Content menu in Preferences. Click the Java box to enable it. Click OK. Then open the same menu in Preferences again. If it is still checked the second time you opened the Preferences, it worked. If not, unmerge sun-jre-bin and then re-emerge it. This worked for me.

Jope this helps. :)

No go for Konqueror, but that's ok, I think it sucks as a browser anyway.

I tried removing both Opera and Flash and installing Opera and than flash. Nothing. Than I tried the fixes posted here again and still nothing. Then I removed Opera and flash, installed Opera again and went to see what the youtube page would say to me. I got a Opera pop-up that I don't have the flash plug-in and would I like to download it. I clicked yes and downloaded it from the adobe websites, followed all the instructions and installed flash again, not through portage. Flash again worked in FF and not in Opera, Opera still asked me whether I want to download the plugin again.

When I install flash through portage this is how youtube page looks:
