Login loop as user after Rigo upgrade

Post by ShadowOne333 » Wed Jan 22, 2020 1:04

Good day.

First off, please forgive my intrusion if this is the wrong section to post this issue. Do let me know if it gets moved, please.

Just today I powered on a laptop I had with Sabayon, with the last upgrade being done like a year ago I believe.

I performed the system upgrade all through the Rigo package manager.
Everything went fine (after like 1191 processes). Once it finished it still had 6 preserved builds, but nothing out of the ordinary after that.

So I finished the upgrade, and rebooted the machine.
GDM started just fine, typed in my user and password, but to my surprise, the user's desktop doesn't appear.

Instead, I get brought back to the GDM login screen.
The user keeps doing the same thing over and over to no avail.

I tried doing something different, logging in through GDM with the root user and its password, just to see if I could get to the Desktop, and indeed with root I managed to enter just fine. WiFi and everything else working too.

So it's just the user that cannot seem to access the graphical interface.

Any clues as to what might be happening here?
I do have some experience with Gentoo, but I'm unsure how much config would differ from it compared to Sabayon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check if you have anough /tmp free space or if your /home partition (if any) is full.

Just checked, both /tmp and /home have plenty of free space still, so at least that can be ruled out.
I just find it really weird that root can get into Gnome Desktop just fine, but the user cannot.
If I do 'startx' as user in terminal, I also get brought back to the login screen.

Here's my Xorg.1.log file for reference, maybe this will help shade a light on the issue.
From what I can see and gather, the problem might be related to logind from systemd, though I am still unsure as to how about possibly fixing it.

Please, even with or without the graphical interface,

log as Root in command line, and execute this command. Post the output:

Code: Select all

# systemctl status systemd-logind.service
the expected is the service load and active
